What do you guys think of this play? I had Villain pegged as a little weak tight while I had won some pots without showing down.

What do you guys think of this play?
Not thrilled to be honest. You're gambling $16 ($12 + his other $4 which he'd re-raise and you'd be compelled to call) that he hasn't got an ace, which his pre-flop raise and post flop call suggested he could have. If he called post flop on a flush draw, your pair of 10's are ahead anyway. Long term, this play is going to be a loser in my opinion.

Thanks for that guys. I don't really like this play either and thought I got a bit lucky with it. Looking at his stack size now this isn't a good play at all really. Anyway, here's what I was thinking.

I put him on a big pair here like QQ/JJ or AK/AQ.

I basically played it like a draw though so I didn't lead out because I wanted to represent the made flush at the end. His betting on a 10 high board confirmed for me that he had an overpair, although AK/AQ could C-bet here, so the initial call is for pot control. The Ad was a great card for me I thought. At this point I decided to play like I'd made the flush so the flat call there is what I'd do normally if I made a big hand. The bet on the end is designed as a value bet bluff representing the flush.

Anyway, I don't think I'll be making this play too often in the future.

Schatz i dont think such a play needs to work a lot of times for it to be a "good one". you may have felt it applied to the situation then and went for it.

If you think hed fold an ace to that bet then its obviously a good move. And you chose the right player to do it against. It may not work against many but doesnt mean it wasnt a good move.

However its the uncertainty as to what he has that made us think twice about the hand.

Cheers Alan,

Good feedback. I've been thinking about this hand and told a few people about it. I tagged this guy early on as the one to make a move on and I was correct in that. As you put it situationally I felt this wasn't too bad a play.
