I folded AK on the river (Top Pair Top Kicker) when facing an all in. Here is some context:

- It's 25c/50c heads up ZOOM NL holdem with a $50 buy-in (pokerstars)
- I had played against villain previously. Villain was very aggressive and had bluffed in the past, but this was the first time he went all in against me.
- I was on the button
- Villain re-raised me preflop and bet roughly 3/4 pot on the flop, turn and river (which resulted in him being all in)
- I raised/called preflop, called the flop, called the turn and folded the river, so I never got to see if he was bluffing or not
- My hand was Ah Ks
- Community cards were (in order) 4h 3d 10h Kh 4d
- At the time, there was $42.10 in the pot and it would cost $33.34 to call

Did I make a mistake? Should I have called?

Why did you play the hand so passively? If you did it in order to induce bluffs from a very aggressive player then you should be calling this river. Your hand is really underrepresented by the river.

I also noticed you posted a 1/2c hand - what's your normal game and limit?

I play all types of NL hold'em, whether it's heads up, 6MAX, full ring or MTT's. I like to play the lowest possible stakes. Unfortunately, there's no such thing as 1c/2c heads up, which is why I was forced to play 25c/50c.

I wanted to control the pot size. The pot was already quite large and I didn't want to go all in, which is why I checked the turn, hoping he would either check back or make a small bet. I wasn't expecting him to bet as large and as aggressively as he did.

What should I have done instead?

I'm a 6max player and HU is a different monster, but I don't understand why you would be going for pot control in a HU pot where you have TPTK. I would think in HU zoom poker a raise on the button is almost a given for every hand so I'm thinking the 3-bet range from aggressive villain is still pretty wide.

I would probably have 4-bet from the button preflop. As played, I'm calling the river for the reason stated in the prior post.

I think we should have called on the river against such a villain especially when we know he is capable of bluffing and when we have a history with such a player.

Our hand is very strong on the river. We can even put out a 4bet pre flop against him since he is 3betting us from the button. Folding was a mistake is what i think personally.:)

4bet preflop and ready to call 5bet shove VS this kind of player
flop call is fine,
but turn , VS 2nd barrel, you need to 2bet turn for value, since he has a lot of pair in his range. which you beat now.

but If you choose to call catch his bluff, river you are definitely need to call down this pot.. even there is only a top pair. this is enough to call river shove.

hope you beat QQ,JJ, AQ,AJ, 55,66,77, AT,KQ,KJ + other bluff cards randomly A3s, A5s AhX
but sometimes lost to, KTs,TT,AA,44,33, randomly A4s

BTW: I play HU NL25 in Blackchips, and based on my experience, I don't understand why you turning your value hand into a bluff catcher in turns. It will miss a lot of value, Currently and Future!
If you value this pot, in the future, you got more credit when over cards shows the turn, and you may float win a lot of pot. besides, if he got a middle pair, like 99, you may miss potential value right now.
