re: Poker & $50 NLHE Full Ring: $ : 50NL FR: JJ Facing Huge Reraise On Low Board
It would be nice if we knew more information about your opponent. What was his style leading up to this? So I'll have to assume no reads.
Well, you have JJ, one of the hardest hands to play. Your opponent raised a little over 3x from MP, so you have to give him credit for somewhat of a hand, if you have no reads on him. I'm assume you re-raised to isolate, however, I'm not sure I like doing that with JJ. If we re-raise and he calls and a few overs flop, then what are we going to do??
So he does call and we have a pretty safe board for JJ, all low, but there is a flush draw and a straight draw out there. He checks, you C bet, and we can assume we are betting for value here. Then he comes over the top with almost a $20.00 re-raise, which is about pot size at this point. So now we are kinda like WTF??? LOL. So again, with no reads we are kinda in a spot here. We only have a pair and we kinda wanted to keep the pot small. Did he raise in MP and hit a set?, he could be on a flush draw with tow overs, or he smooth called us with a higher pp. 10 10 or 99 could also be in his range.
So again with no reads, what does our opponent think about us? What have we shown him. How often have we re-raised preflop?? What did we re-raise with when we did?? Did we go to showdown and show a hand we re-raised with? Our opponent could assume we missed the flop with two overs and is now putting the pressure on us, with his 10 10, because he doesn't really want an over to show up on the turn or river. Or he could have us beat here with a higher pp. So we are way ahead or way behind, which is a small pot situation. The only problem is our stack size and the fact that we will be pot committed if we call. So we are not calling here. We are either folding or shoving all in. Part of me says that with the size of the bet, it feels like a bluff or a semi-bluff. The other part of me says we have only invested $11.30 in the pot. We don't have any reads on this player, so it's time to fold and wait for a better spot.
So with the information provided I'm going to save some money and fold here.
