Yes check the flop its pointless trying to bluff these sorts of players and once you do connect you should bet turn AND the river. For me this is a clear bet fold spot for thin value. You will lose money on the end here in the long run by not betting against these sort of players.
The 5 is a brick if he called the turn with draws he should fold but if he called with Tx not believing then he might call again. These types love calling down an AK with 2nd pair so make it something fairly easy to call like $7-8 and fold to a raise from his J9, sets and strong 2pair hands.
