$50 NLHE 6-max: In SB with AKo. Is it ever wise to fold here?
live game .25/.50. No formal stats, but generally a tight game with advanced beginner/intermediate players.
Cannot give everyone's stack size - live game and I am not comfortable taking notes with my buddies.
I was in SB with about 100 BB. Smallest stack was down to 10BB, largest was probably 200BB
I had AK off suit.
UTG raised to 3BB = $1.50
call, call, call to me
So, I am looking at $6.00 pot with AK and at least 3 callers to a raise from UTG.
3 bet? - I know that this might be a good place to raise. Essentially a squeeze and I actually have the goods to back it up. I worry, however, that many will call again and I will be playing a very large pot out of position with multiple opponents. Two out of three times I am going to miss the flop and be left trying to bluff the entire table from poor position. Implied odds
if I hit are probably decent, but I will most likely need to have the stones to be all in by the river with just TP/TK, which does not feel very good to me. I am sure that some would shove here. Trouble is, I am pretty confident that nothing will call my pre-flop shove other than high pairs JJ+ - to which I am a roughly 3:2 dog (57:43).
call? - even worse. All of the same problems as above, plus there is no chance that anyone folds to my call - I will more often than not miss the flop, then I am playing OOP with multiple opponents. Basically, most of the time I will end up check/folding and throwing away 3BB.
Fold? - feels a little crazy to fold AK, but allows me to chill out for a hand and avoid a mine field. Given the number of players calling an UTG raise, I am not sure AK is profitable, or at least not reliably so.
Interested to hear what you would do. Is it ever wise to fold AK?
