$.50/1 FL O8 Full Ring: Pot gets real big, real fast with maniacs driving the action.

The guys doing all the jamming preflop are crazy, and have a really wide range of hands. Fold preflop, or just hang on for the ride?

Key decisions in the hand:

1) Cap the betting myself preflop, or hope that sometimes it doesn't get capped?

2) Lead the flop or check it?

3) Fold the turn facing 3 bets cold?

C9, you know that I dont now much about this game yet so Ill just see if we can get a little disscusion goin. I have read that Steve Badger stuff you sent me to and some other things so...

Your hand seems to be borderline in playability. I guess since their range is so wide and you're 7 handed you could argue it has playability but knowing that betting will most likely be capped and you'll be OOP.... i'll be folding this cause I'm waiting for easier decisions but having skill might persuade me to play it.

1.I guess hope that it doesnt get capped is the best option if we assume we have no FE with these guys even if we show aggresion PF?

2.Drawing to the nuts for the high but have no BDFD outs or low draw yet. I guess if we decide to play this street knowing its probs gonna be capped may as well start the betting. Trivial decision?

3.Now we have the nut low draw and nut straight draw but a FD has just hit the board. No possibility to scoop the pot though so the best we can hope for is half the pot but we might even get quartered. I say fold the turn facing 3 bets knowing its gonna be capped.

Now I call the river for info if I havent seen many showdowns from this guy yet but thats cause I'm still learning.

If I capped, it'd mostly be to mis-represent my hand. LO8, its pretty rare for someone to cap preflop without aces. The cap costs me a tiny tiny tiny fraction of a bet (I probably have 18%-22% equity here) but if it causes them to make a big error later, it could earn me several bets. Plus, if its going to get capped anyways, I'd like to be the one looking strong.

2.Drawing to the nuts for the high but have no BDFD outs or low draw yet. I guess if we decide to play this street knowing its probs gonna be capped may as well start the betting. Trivial decision?
Seems like a simple pot odds question to me. I've got 4 outs to the nuts and we'll say half an out to a BDFD, and that translates into about 9:1 pot odds that I need. If I figure the flop was going to get capped, I should have folded, since that would give me (4+4+4+16.5)/4 = 7.1:1 pot odds. I do have significant implied odds though, against these types of players who will jam with pretty much anything. So I think its a pretty tough spot. In spots like these where the pot gets very big, I tend to lean towards calling, but I don't think folding is that bad either.

3.Now we have the nut low draw and nut straight draw but a FD has just hit the board. No possibility to scoop the pot though so the best we can hope for is half the pot but we might even get quartered. I say fold the turn facing 3 bets knowing its gonna be capped.
I've got 15 outs to half, and 3 outs to the nuts, with 1 dirty out (lets exclude it). So with 10.5 outs (you cut the outs to half in half) to a card I want to see, I have ~21% or 4:1 equity here. On the turn, if I know its getting capped, I have to pay four bets to win 28ish, or 7:1 again. While I should have folded the flop, I after I get to the turn and make another draw to the nuts, I absolutely have to call.

I still can't decide if this is a fold preflop or not. If the seven were a wheel or broadway card, I think its a pretty easy decision, but as things lie, I think its pretty close. I might post this on 2+2 to see what the people who are actually good at this game think.

is this game played by enough people to be profitable enough to actually study it?
or is this just for fun?

Yeah, there's plenty of people playing LO8. Its spread at just about every casino I've been too, and its quite often the one game in the HORSE rotation that everyone plays the worst. Does it have more profit potential than NLHE? No. Are there people who play it and make a killing, sure. Its probably one of the harder games to show a profit at, especially above mid-stakes, but learning more games is almost always +EV.

What an insane hand. Nice table selection imo.

Any feedback on playing this pf? At a table like this, I can't see folding this pf, but it's certainly not a great hand pf.

Im for folding PF cause that nasty dangler the 7c. It seems like its gonna give us second best hand a lot with either the flush or the low when a 3 or A hits the board. Like you say though, if it was a wheel or BW card suited to the A it would make the decision easier and deff a call.

I dont see a BDFD on the flop so I think Im folding this on the flop.

I dont know WTF I was thinkin on the turn. For some reason I made the bets $2 instead of $1 which made me think we had 5:1 pot odds but I guess that's still barely enough to call givin how much equity in the hand you say we have.

I basically am a rec player playing for cheeseburgers. Ive only been playin for real mannies since last fall and have no aspirations to be "pro" although I do want to continually move up in stakes. So ya, for me its just fun to learn and study these games and it does help your overall game to learn the more obscure variations.

Raggy hand OOP I fold. A3o is not starters to me, A3s maybe but I want position. And a dangler? Nope... As you said c9, wheel or broadway card instead of 7 would make the difference.

I wouldn't a) cap OOP to represent AA (you really need A on flop for this to work) or b) get into a raising war with a draw to only half the pot, with action suggesting I may be quartered.

2) Check
3) Fold
