Villain is 36/7/2.7 over 93 hands.

When we're faced with an opponent on the river who basically has 1 of 2 types of hands, kinda like 2 ranges, either a monster/hand that beats us with AQ/Ax, or a medium hand which we beat QJ/JJ/TT, acting first how do we play generally or against this specific opponent. Do we bet/fold or check/fold essentially. In this hand I checked but immediately after it I hated it. I'm not check calling cause that's dumb so is it always bet/fold?

Also general discussion about this type of spot and situations where we have this 2 hand/range type of situation. Does this spot have a name?

Sorry if the title or intro is misleading, I'm not sure how to word it myself or if it's just a pointless spot :p

I actually love a bet/fold here for like 90c against 'tards like this, and you've probably gotten the max out of their JT/45 crap since I don't expect villains like this to barrel twice (his turn bet was already really timid). Opponents like this also can never bluff/raise you without an ace, and they should call with any queen.

Since all the hands you mention have showdown value, I agree with c9. I reckon he's going to show up with a lot of weaker queens and 8s, but raise any ace/FH, so just snap fold.

Bit of a weird looking bet of the turn, but plenty of value to be had on the river.

Like I said I checked and then instantly hated it, he checked back and turned over QJo.

Yeah, spots like these are so critical for improving your win rate. Fish love to call, and value betting in places like this are how you exploit that tendency to its fullest. And if you leave 5NL with 1 skill set, it should be knowing how to exploit fish to the maximum.

Knowing when to value-bet thin on the river is a skill almost all of us need to improve.
