This is more of a general question than a specific hand. I've been struggling lately with overpairs or TPTK getting cracked by sets either on the flop, or in this case the turn. The question is, the villain here is obviously an idiot, so is it really possible to lay down an overpair or a connected AK here? Yeah, fishy players normally bet big when they have it, but I feel like I may second guess myself and make incorrect folds when I hold a monster and they bet. Is it just a cooler or do I lay down TPTK/Overpair in these situations?

1st - Don't post results or title your thread so we all now what happened. It changes people replies and helps no one.

2nd - Your preflop raise here is too small. This guy is BAD. He's not going to fold if you make it .50 or even .60 preflop. This would have made your flop bet bigger and the turn is a no brainer.

As played I still think the turn is a call. I mean you need to be good ~30% of the time and I think this is like pair + FD or random bluff at least that often vs. this opponent. I'm honestly surprised to see the 2 poster before me advocating a fold but it could be the fact that the results have clouded there assessments. That's why we don't post results except in bad beat threads. :)

I'm not sure I find a fold in action but limp-call, check-call, check-raise is a classic "I have a set" line.

I'm in your head now.

Question: Where you planning on making the same typos/mistakes I did?

well ur a idiot if u know ur beat and u still call. it comes down to your reading. if u think ur beat why call. if ur not beat call simple as that

Every once and a while the sky opens and we are blessed with inspirational nuggets like this.

I think baudib hits it right on with the baluga theory. A check raise on the turn is 99.99% of the time a monster.

Also note it wasnt just a check raise. He was a check-raise overbet-shove.

This is how Ive rationalized it for myself. The draws didnt hit on the turn. Im obv. repping a strong A here and this jackazz wants to play for stacks. So he thinks he has the best hand. He either hit 2 pr. or has a set. Either way Im drawing thin or dead.

It is an expensive lesson to learn and I have recently started testing this again and finding I'm still paying off with 1 pair. I think if you get to higher levels people know how to represent sets when they have combo draws and it puts you in a bad spot because they have the nuts or like 12-15 outs, but at least SOMETIMES they have a draw. Limp-call fish who don't have the imagination to represent something that they don't have aren't spazzing here with AQ-.

This hand is the reason I went from beating 20NL to breakeven 10NL. Seriously. Always always always fold here (exception aggro monkeys ofc)
