pokerstars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (9 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

UTG+1 ($10.18)
Hero (MP1) ($8.90)
MP2 ($5) average 21/9 guy
MP3 ($2.57)
CO ($6.71)
Button ($5.11)
SB ($5) uber-nit 3.2/2 folded to steal 4/4 times
BB ($5.58) Fairly tight 12/9 folds to steals 90%
UTG ($10.17) This guy is a 32/18 with a 70% steal over about 100 hands

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 10

, 10

UTG bets $0.20, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.20, MP2 calls $0.20, 5 folds

Ok I am 4 away from the button facing an UTG raise. I don't feel I should 3-bet here as TT is well below my value range and there are many left to act! I guess with such a high steal % the raiser's range must be as strong as mine when opening UTG ( AQs+,99+) I feel my tens are not really up to the job. I condidered foldin but they are TENS!
I call with plenty deep stacks for a set mine and pray for no squeeze!

Flop: ($0.67) 2
spade.gif
, Q
heart.gif
, 9

(3 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $0.40, MP2 calls $0.40, UTG calls $0.40

Ok one over card rainbow board and PFR checks. Gotta be worth a bet right?
Everyone calls.

Turn: ($1.87) 5
spade.gif
(3 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks, MP2 bets $1, 1 fold,

Hero to act...

I know what I did do but what do you guys think I SHOULD do in this spot?
Did I play this hand well and was I thinking it through right?

Thanks in advance!

Frank

if you were looking to get thin value out of an underpair you should have 3-bet preflop. it seems like you had a plan to play weak-passive and then got stabby. that's fine but it seems like the turn is an easy fold now.

With everyone calling you on the flop, I think the check was the right thing to do on the turn. I can also see an argument for possibly checking behind the UTG guy on the flop as well, but I probably would have bet as well. It's possible that MP2 has a Q and was floating the flop to see if another blank came on the turn (like the 5).

If it was me on the turn, I would check, then seeing that MP2 bet, I would consider folding, but probably call (because I'm not disciplined enough, lol) and take it to showdown (hopefully with check, check on the river.)

So to sum up my thinking, a fold wouldn't be bad because of the Q on the flop, but calling wouldn't be bad either.

PF. Against a guy like this, I want to know his opening % utg. He's pretty active, but is it all positional activity?

I think you played the hand fine up to that point. I like the flop bet.

Folding on the turn is definitely the prudent play. MP2's bet into that field is very strong. You're oop with little going for you.

U could recieve call from hand like.. hmm.. 98s, JT, QJ, QT, KJ. But TP should raise on the flop, so i think it could be 55 or some 9. Mb JT SD, 'coz straight-draw had good pot-odds on the flop to call.
So i think, on that flop u could make check/call to see the river. U have pot-odds ~1:2,9, not so good but often enough.

Pocket Tens make me more squeamish than any other hand. They look good but rarely play well. Calling is almost always the wrong play preflop. By calling you have have to guess at the value of your hand vs a vs your opponents.TT & JJ are at the bottom of my standard 3-betting range so I would have re-raised here for lots of reasons:

  1. You might get the Original raiser to fold.
  2. If he doesn't fold you know your up against a strong hand
  3. you will isolate the raiser and get heads up with position
  4. If you flop a set the pot is bigger especially he if he has an Overpair to that flop.
Just remember when you 3 bet - c-bet. Don't be afraid to fire a 2nd barrell no matter what the flop is. You'll often get a better hand to fold, especially on A or K high boards.
