$5 NL HE Full Ring: Small overpair on paired board...

Context: I have been playing for a while against the villain, and he is a smart player, who very frequently bets from LP when folded to him. The hand just before this one, I landed TT in the BB when he raised in the CO, and I 3bet him, forcing him to fold. Then this hand comes up, and he bets again from the HJ; I have 77 in the SB, and decide to 3bet him again, as I think that he's on a steal thinking I won't 3bet him twice in a row. This time he smoothcalls (as I suspected he would, since he probably thinks I just re-stole from him, although I can't completely discount the possibility of a strong hand licking his chops).

The flop comes excellent for me as 664 two toned, giving me an overpair with a backdoor straight and flush draw. I decide to come in for a regular cbet, figuring he's likely to call and/or 3bet me with worse holdings, or possibly a hand like AK-Ax. Indeed he does 3bet; my question is do I fold or raise, and if I do raise, how much? I'm guessing I'm either way ahead, or way behind, but that he's likely to stack me with worse since I just re-stole. Then again, am I really willing to risk more chips here with a less than robust overpair, especially considering that he could very well have raised/called with 88 or better in this spot (although as I said, my hunch tells me he's putting me on a steal here...) What are your thoughts? Hand is below, thanks in advance!

In position, I might consider flatting here - oop, I'm folding, there are going to be better opportunities later.

We're giving Villain quite a bit of credit to be thinking about re-stealing ranges, aren't we? If he's that much of a thinker, it makes some sense to maybe continue (but for me being oop makes this a fold), but is he really? We're currently holding a bluff catcher hoping for Ax hands or a turned 7, and two backdoor draws doesn't really thrill me here.

Your pf 3bet size is on the small side imo, I'd be looking to make this a little over 3x $0.17, esp oop.

Villain just made a huge raise to put 2/3 of their stack and is never folding so I would just fold unless you have a maniac read. Villain has to have a fair amount of two overs with no flush draw in their range for you to continue. If they are doing this with flush draws and pairs, you are either slightly ahead or way behind (except 55, 33, and 22) which generally gives you bad equity against their range. Your hand looks better than it actually is imo.

Also, I won't say don't 3bet 77 out of the blinds because there is a place for it but be careful because you'll be put into many tough situations playing 77 in a 3bet pot OOP.

I'm thinking there's no sense in a call. You are already bet for the majority of your stack. I think I go ahead and shove in here, knowing that a call is coming. But that shove is heavily predicated on my read that villian is likely pushing with air (2 overs). If I have that read to be air 60% of the time and a higher pair 40% of the time (I'm ignoring the chance he has a set of 6s and the chance he has a lower pair and being small here and close to cancelling) then I am even money on my play assuming he calls. If I think he's on 2 overs more than 60% of the time, then its a good long term equity play. It can also buy a bit more table image if the guy knows he can't bully you around, but that means next time he pushes he's more likely to have the goods.

Thanks very much for all the responses. This was one of the few hands this week where my read was spot on. He indeed was holding two overs, 87s, and I had him completely dominated. I normally do not 3bet 77 from OOP, but something about the way he bet this hand and given the action the very previous hand, made me think that he wasn't going to let me take it twice in a row; 664 seemed to me to have missed his stealing range completely, so I made a cbet, which he quickly re-raised; again, the speed at which he bet told me he was bluffing (and I think he might have just called here with a really strong hand, since I had been the aggressor, letting me hang myself). So I shoved and he called, showing 8h7h and I made a hearty fistpump.

Again, under normal circumstances and without a very strong instinct on my read, I would not have played my hand this way (or at all, for that matter). But on this occasion bells were going off. Thanks again!
