fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, SB calls 2.6 BB, fold

SB checks, Hero bets 4 BB, SB raises to 15.2 BB, Hero calls 11.2 BB

Turn: (37.4 BB, 2 players) A:club:
SB checks, Hero checks

River: (37.4 BB, 2 players) Q:diamond:
SB checks, Hero bets 19.6 BB

Had hands on the villain, but didn't recognise him at all. I steal a lot, so he would've noticed that if he's using a HUD. First hand I played.

Bet the turn.

He's not checking to induce. He fears the A and wants a free river card with his flopped flush draw. Lots of fold equity if we bet, and if he calls, we can check the river behind. If he raises we can fold.
As played we want to get it in here. We only lose to 86 and AA and if he has that, he can have our stack, imo.

the problem with betting the turn is we're not going to get value from worse very much. Sb is pretty tight, potentially we could think about folding the flop but it's tough to say how aggressive he is without observing his play.

Villain's numbers are on the tight side. His call Pre looks like small pairs, Ax and connectors. Lot of his hands hit the flop and since you were the preflop raiser you'd expect him to check the flop.

The re-raise limits his range. If he had trips, would he re-raise the flop? He might if he was afraid of the flush draw. He would also re-raise 9x, fearing an over on the turn. I personally would also re-raise my flush draws and check the turn when it came in. I wouldn't check the river though. It looks like wants to show down, the question is "Why?"

Is his flush low, does he have flopped trips? IMHO, there is no way he called the flop with AA or 68, so it comes down to those two as the only likely calls. Given the two checks, I discount the flush and like your raise on the river.

The reason I didn't bet the turn was that he was tight, even if he doesn't have great stats. The x/r worried me slightly and the ace does hit his range imo. He could have Ax type hands and check raised to try and take down the pot as I'm so loose on the button.

Am I giving him too much credit when he's playing 15/8/2? On regular 888 I would think opponents are pretty oblivious to steals at 5nl, however the competition has become even slightly nitty recently - less fish.
