This is a value shove from a boat or an 8, maybe even aces /kings if he's a real fish. No one at 5nl is good enough to bluff shove over your big river bet and its not a bluff that works here anyway because nearly all players in our position here are not good enough to lay down a strong non nut hand in any case.
I would need to know his stats before deciding whether to call. fish = call. tight player = Fold. Low aggression= fold. reg with high agg 50/50. You have to call sometimes because he is unlikely to put you on a straight.
18 combos of sets 666 222 TTT , 1of quads, 8 of A8, maybe 12 of AA/KK . Maybe its just a fold especially as you haven't invested much in the hand. Im pretty confident most 5nl are calling here though.

Though our hand is hidden, his hand might also be concealed likewise.

Its a tough spot but overall, his raise is too much for me.

yeah you've got to call, especially at 5NL. But presumably he had 108?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I thought a bit and folded. Villain had played his first hand in about 10 hands

I don't mind the fold at all in this scenario. I think after the way the hand was played and the amount we invested (pretty small compared to river raise), it is pretty unnecessary to bluff catch even with a straight.

Villain most likely has us beat, simply by the way he played it so fold is fine.

Isn't it worth calling a min raise?

Not when everyone else has folded. Its a hand that's only ever worth playing in a multi way pot and even then I personally won't play it. I guess this really comes down to how many tables you are playing as I play 6 and really don't have the time to play such mediocre hands.

You could call with ATCs if we know the villain is a terrible fish that can be easily bluffed or will pay us off when we do hit big.

Against a solid player though 97o is a fold pre.
