Villain was 40/19/2.5 after 42 hands.

Preflop I make a standard 3x raise, he flats in the HJ. I bet the flop to protect my hand b/c it's pretty wet. When he calls, his range is so wide I figure I'm pretty much check/calling any card on the turn unless the bet is huge (i.e. he could have flush draws, straight draws, or just be floating). The turn completes both flush and straight draws and he fires a small bet...maybe I made a mistake here, but I ended up calling because it was so small. Now I don't know how to play the river.

Should I fire a defensive bet of say 1/2 pot? Should I check/call or check/fold? Or should I have just folded on the turn?

I would've led out the turn and the river. on a shove I would've called cause your definatly getting enough equity.

When you have a 40/19 at the table your pfr raise needs to be bigger, prob'ly 5x bb. Also if he will pay any price to draw charge him more on the flop, instead of 3/4 pot make it a psb. Same on turn, less than 1/3 pot turn bet screams weakness. I would make another large bet, 1/2 to psb. If he calls again on here you still have spent less than your river call and you probly know he hit.

I would have flat-called your opponent's bets too.

Nicely played hand.

I agree with SRP. Check-call turn and river. He shows up with Tx or random bluffs here often enough to make this a profitable line.

I view the villains bet on the turn as saying he is also worried about the diamonds. I don't think he is turning over better than Tx here very often. I would have bet all streets.
