So here is how the hand played out, no stats or reads on villains:

$0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (8 handed)

Known players:
SB = ($2.02)
BB = ($12.45)
UTG2 = ($5.48)
MP1 = ($8.16)
MP2 = ($4.34)
MP3 (Hero) = ($4.60)
CO = ($5.36)
BU = ($3.93)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with Ah, Ad.
UTG2 folds, MP1 raises to $0.10, MP2 calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.30, 4 folds, MP1 calls $0.20, MP2 calls $0.20.

Flop: ($0.97) Jc, Js, 8c (3 players)
MP1 checks, MP2 checks, Hero bets $0.35, MP1 calls $0.35, MP2 folds.

Turn: ($1.67) 6d (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets $1.00, MP1 calls $1.00.

River: ($3.67) Td (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets $2.95, MP1 folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $3.67.

How would you have played this hand, just looking for some advice. What do you think the villains range is here and how big a value bet he would call on the river. If I were to play it again I wouldn't ship the river probably give him better odds maybe bet like $1.50 would be better?
Thanks a lot.

Bigger preflop! At least 50 cents.

Not sure the value of even betting the river. I think you should probably just check behind and see a SD.

1) Bigger preflop on account that you're 3-betting a raise-flat (Note: You never wanna size your raise on hand strenght; you ideally play the same for any hand you'd 3-bet in the same spot, which hopefully aren't many -- personally I only 3-bet TT and above against tight opponents, and premium Broadway against looser opponents).

2) The river bluff was really REALLY bad, and I say this as someone who did stuff like that constantly. Villain could only possibly call with a Jack, so your choices were either gain nothing or lose your bet. And the odds that Villain had Jacks were like 1 in 4 or something assuming Villain's 3-bet range is tight, so even with Jacks on the board you were the odds-on favorite.

Ducky should chime in here, cause from what I hear, VB the river is a religion to him....lol
Bet sizing smells of playing w/o a plan. Preflop has been mentioned. Flop bet sizing is totally weird. What did you want to accomplish here? IMO VB the river has merit but sizing up to now makes that hard to do.

The 3bet size preflop is absolutely awful. The cbet size is good as it serves to force the hand of a slow-played jack and keep a ton of the mid pocket pairs, straight draws, flush draws and 8x hands in the hand because it comes across as weak. Turn bet is a bit too small, I prefer about $1.30. Once you've thinned out the field with the small cbet, you're left playing against a heavily draw-filled hand range you need to make pay. Jx/88 will probably c/r, and most everything else (the huge part of his range we're ahead of) will c/c. The larger bet will probably fold out the 22-77 pairs but you'll keep enough of his range tagging along to make it the more profitable size. River shove was awful. The only hands calling which you beat are KK/QQ and it's highly unlikely either of those are min-raise/calling preflop which pretty much only leaves Jx hands and subsequently...you dead.

Bigger pre. Id go with .70 with a raise/flat and 4 left to act. Flop larger, turn larger, and with no stats id check behind on river. Ad stated you're only getting called when you're beat there.
