PokerStars - $0.05 NL - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BB): $10.39
UTG: $5.00 (VPIP: 16.16, PFR: 11.11, 3Bet Preflop: 2.65, hands: 798)
MP: $5.00 (VPIP: 15.93, PFR: 13.19, 3Bet Preflop: 4.14, Hands: 1,503)
CO: $5.46 (VPIP: 12.38, PFR: 10.67, 3Bet Preflop: 3.94, Hands: 539)
BTN: $4.86 (VPIP: 12.69, PFR: 9.79, 3Bet Preflop: 2.55, Hands: 1,358)
SB: $8.39 (VPIP: 30.77, PFR: 15.38, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 13)

SB posts SB $0.02, Hero posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has 5 7

fold, fold, fold, fold, SB calls $0.03, Hero checks

Flop: ($0.10, 2 players) 8 4 6
SB checks, Hero bets $0.10, SB calls $0.10

Turn: ($0.30, 2 players) 3
SB checks, Hero bets $0.29, SB calls $0.29

River: ($0.88, 2 players) 5
SB checks, Hero bets $0.84, SB raises to $7.95 and is all-in, Hero?

Should I bet more on earlier streets? On the river, what would be the biggest mistake over the long run -- calling or folding?

Thanks

Flop and turn good spots for over-betting. For 100bb, I'd snap off the river, although I'm not loving it since he could have 79s for the nuts. But you also block 79s with your hand, and I don't think he's limping in with 79o. Being almost 200bb deep I might end up mucking here, but I don't think calling is that bad as he's only repping one combo of 79s, which we block. But this is 5NL, so he might be the player to limp in with 79o.

Bettings on streets are fine for me.

On river, easy call at my end. I cannot imagine he has the first nut that beats our second nut hand.

Min is a split here though.

People spazz out with sets on river or 2 pair or overpairs so it's an ez call in the end.

Opponent could have lower straight as well or it's a total bluff.

That river is a fold with stacks this deep. You're calling to split or lose $7.50 ~90% of the time.

Thanks for the replies.

100%. I raise any 2 cards in that situation. Didn't even notice it until you posted. I make it 4x there EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I do this with around the top 50% of hands. I might start opening it up a bit when I get more confident postflop.

Think about how weak our opponent is going to be in general when he limps in this position. Top 50% is MILES ahead of his range (in general). You have position and your opponent is almost always super weak here. Your cards are basically meaningless.

I took your advice in a session I played yesterday. I got instafolds every time. Eventually they just stopped limping my blind all together and just folded their sb to me. :D
