$5 NL HE 6-max: Should I have shipped it in here?

Basically my question is should I have shoved all in here? What do you think?

No stats on villain

CO: $2.47 (49.4 bb)
BTN: $5.28 (105.6 bb)
SB: $10.58 (211.6 bb)

Pre-Flop: Hero is UTG with J

Why would you shove? You can easily get stacks in if you want on the river by just making a normal valuebet. I mean if you have some great read that the guy is an idiot who will call your shove with most of his worse hands, it's fine. Minus that I'd say bad shove.

I would've re-raised the flop intending to get stacks in based on the draweyness of the board I put a lot of holding in villain's range that I'm ahead of.

I definitely don't like the shove, not sure the reason for that. Just make a pot-sized bet and you're committed.

Thanks for the reply guys, Poker Stove says against a very wide range here that my AJo is a 63% equity and chance to win in an all in...should that change anything?

I have to admit I definitely didnt think pokerstove stats before I shoved....

So explain to us why you shoved? What was your reasoning?

Yeah, I think the shove was a bit of a snap impulse move that I didnt have a completely rational reason for, other than I felt I was ahead on the flop...

Mase: When you say you dont like the shove is it because he will fold all hands that are beaten (unless hes a total idiot) and call with all hands that beat me?

And if we'r getting stacks in after a re-raise why not just shove right off?

Thanks

I just think you're folding his draws and letting him play pretty perfectly. He can call when he's ahead and fold when behind so you're not allowing him to make mistakes. Now if he's a drooler who is going to call a shove with his draws and pairs, great shove, but if that's the case you should have told us in the OP.

Hi VW, Thanks and no I had no reason to think he was a drooler....I want to eliminate these senseless fundamental brain cramps from my game, its why im doing the micro-stakes...lessons learned are cheaper :)

Then the key thing to work on is to think before you take any action. Think about if you want to bet or not (this is clearly a case where you do imo) and then think about the max $$ you can extract from your opponent while still having the best hand.
