Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 28/12/1

Full Tilt - $0.05 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

Hero (CO): $4.93
BTN: $5.00
SB: $8.40
BB: $4.86
UTG: $6.18

SB posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: ($0.07) Hero has Q Q

fold, Hero raises to $0.15, fold, SB calls $0.13, fold

Flop: ($0.35, 2 players) 2 J A
SB checks, Hero bets $0.15, SB calls $0.15

Turn: ($0.65, 2 players) 5
SB checks, Hero ???

If I had raised with Ax, I would bet more on flop to protect from FD, but should I still bet ~3/4 pot? Is shutting down on turn the best line? Hope he made a thin call with Jx? I feel like betting again on turn is just spew. Thoughts?

Check back the flop. WA/WB.

If you had checked the flop then you can bet turn when its checked to you a second time for value from Jx, med PPs and FDs.

It's not really a WA/WB thing as there are probably a lot of FD's in villain's range, but I agree with the checking flop part. You should double barrel the non-diamond turn and river then as Jx and more will probably call.

There is no such thing as betting to protect your hand. Don't do it. And when you want to bet vs a likely draw, don't make it less than 1/2 the pot, you're pricing him in and costing yourself money in the process, with the best hand and all.

Also even though a spot may be wa/wb, doesn't mean checking back is necessarily best. In a spot where the part of villain's range that is way ahead still calls a lot of cbets and may be passive enough not to c/r bluff or bluff turn (ex. with 33 here), cbetting is strictly for value. It's just not as clear value as KK on a Q74ss flop for example.

Given villain is really passive and will likely call with any Jx, FD and gutshot, and even potentially something like TT, and won't turn worse hands into bluffs too often on the turn/river, I often cbet these flops for value.

We just have to know why we're cbetting, and know what to do on various turns given how they affect our opponent's flop calling range and how our opponent reacts. Sometimes this is a double barrel for value, other times I'll check back and fold a river, other times I'll check back and call river, and other times I'm playing the more pot control-ish line of checking back flop and playing out a turn/river.
