What is the purpose of this overbet? Why do some overbet/bet pot on the flop? I see this situation pretty often and always assume a bluff. I feel like this is a pretty big issue in my game and I am wondering what your opinions are. Is he protecting his hand from the flush draw? Did he hit a set and just derp bet everyone into folding? Total air??

In this situation, I folded purely because of his AF. I really wanted to call but it was just not worth it.

I think an overbet can mean a lot of different things depending on the opponent. However, I think this bet is almost never a complete bluff. There are 4 people in the pot and people generally play more honest when its multiway. Id say he had at least a flush draw or an open ended straight draw. He also has some 2 pair type hands and aces with bigger kicker than yours. Furthermore judging by the size of the bet I think he is unlikely to stop betting on future streets and are you really calling him down with top pair medium kicker? I think the best play here is just to fold.

Also a side note, preflop is super bad in my opinion. You need to be raising it up to about $0.40 - $0.50 or folding. This is because A9o flops terribly and can get you in lots of trouble, especially out of position. However, Im more used to full ring games so this could be wrong and if so someone please correct me. But to me, calling seems like the worst option preflop.

Good read with the 4 way pot, I can see that not being a bluff at all, I was kind of picturing a flush draw and that was my best case scenario. I also agree with the bets on future streets which is why I did fold. The preflop play was pretty weak/passive but I felt like A9o was not worth a reraise and I figured if people had AJ+ they would not of basically limped in with the min raise of 2BB.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
