PokerStars - $0.05 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

SB: $5.00
Hero (BB): $5.45
UTG: $5.53
MP: $5.60 Looks to be a pretty solid LAG, 34/30 with steal of 61 and a 3-bet of 7%. He has folded to 2/2 3-bets and I have this info from 44 hands
CO: $3.88
BTN: $3.81

SB posts SB $0.02, Hero posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: ($0.07) Hero has 8 9

fold, MP raises to $0.20, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.80, MP calls $0.60

Flop: ($1.62, 2 players) A 5 7

Ok the ace either hits his calling range of it scares him. The board isn't too wet otherwise.
I feel that If I am going to bet here it should be near to pot sized as I want to reprisent stregth but am OOP. I don't want to commit myself however else I may as well shove all-in now.
I want to continue the initiative and I do have some equity.
Its a difficult spot. Beter to check and hope he gives me a free card?

Hero bets $1.10, MP calls $1.10

Turn: ($3.82, 2 players) J

Ok things have now improved with the double inside stright draw. If only I had some fold equity here! I am now thinking a check call would have been better in this spot but I guess I had just convinced myself he was floating the flop so I shoved and hoped for a fold or that 15%!

Its ridiculous really as I obviously had zero showdown value if I missed...

Hero bets $3.55 and is all-in, MP calls $3.55

River: ($10.92, 2 players) 8

why shove on the turn? you are only going to win as long as you hit your straight, because he is not calling with worse than a J in his hand now that you are all in, no way no how.

easy check fold.

Hmmm, I think it may have been decision fatigue induced tilt.

I had been playing for 3 hours
I think this should be an easy leak to fix!

As a bluff I think you played this fine. Although I wouldn't be three betting this pre

Because I want to see a flop. I also don't really want to inflate the pot because if I'm called I'm playing oop with a hand that doesn't make tp tk status etc

Hope this helps

reason you should 3 bet: min raise so probably a weak hand, also suited connectors good to take on anything he might have, even big pps, easy to semi bluff with, easy to hit something nice he wouldn't expect, and maybe other reasons i can't think of now.

why you shouldn't 3 bet this hand: you don't have position, you don't have enough hands on the guy and just because he folded 2 times to 3 bets before it is not good enough, plus lags like this don't give up that easy, especially in position i believe he is capable of semi bluffing himself, capable of floating, capable of firing when opponent shows weakness.

so if you wanted to play a pot with the guy i think you should have called, see a flop, it would have been a lot easier, flop comes, you have a gut shot, check/call a smallish cbet, on turn i would do the same as on the flop, and give up on the river.

i love 3 betting these type of hands, but i tend to do it vs more tag players om whom i have more hands and who like to fold to 3 bets.

No point in betting the turn now, you don't have that 30% FE
