This is a discussion on $5 NLHE 6-max: How could I have played this better? within the online poker forums, in the Cash Game Hand Analysis section; The main issue was this guy limping a enormous range and min betting every street.
So, should I have even tried this? Probably not, and how
Listen man, the reason we fold pre is because we have a super duper spec hand here, there is no point in trying to be fancy opening 4-5s vs some whale calling station in the blind. He never folds, so why are we trying to make hands with 5-high here?
And, why are you raising the flop? You have only back door flush, back door straight draws. Are you at all surprised Villain didn't fold here? I'm not surprised at all. Don't bluff people who don't fold.
This isn't how you beat a player like this. You beat a player like this by making hands and value betting relentlessly.
Old school advice may be applicable here.... if the table is playing loose, play tighter than them. If the table is tight, play looser than them.
So basically, you are choosing to enter a pot, and raise, with a hand that probably isn't going to flop much, and you can't bluff a calling station.
Tighten up. Fold pre. There should be no postflop decisions, because you are supposed to fold pre in this spot, in my humble opinion.
