Not sure what to do here.

Hands that beat me are 4 combinations of AK, 3 combinations of AJ, 3 combinations of A10, 12 combinations of KQ, 3 combinations of JJ, and 3 combinations of 1010. Is villain playing this way with A2-A9, KK, or QQ often enough here to make a call profitable?

Should I have just flat called his initial river bet?

On the turn I was planning to just get to showdown with my ace, but when the river came, it changed things a little bit.

1) You have trips, not a set.

2) There's no reason to raise the flop. You fold out so many hands with a raise, maybe even some aces you have dominated.

3) Given your flop raise and his lead, his line looks really strong. He at least has an ace to call that flop. Just call his river lead.

I mainly want to get in here to see what people have to say on this one. Trips like this is often a money losing hand.

I think winning the pot post flop by 3-betting and folding everybody out is actually a great result with AQ here.

AQ is a trouble hand and trips are as well and we just happen to have both.

3-bet pre. 3-handed AQ is very strong, and you might even be ahead of his calling range. Also, we can just take it down pre. We also take the initiative in the hand, and can bluff certain textures.

Hands that beat you and the hands that are in his range on the riverare totally different. Half the hands you listed are not in his range, e.g. 12 combos of KQ and 3 combos of 1010. Even with the few combos he may come to the river with for KQ, they also do not three-jam the river 150bb deep.

Pretty trivial fold. You are repping at least an A, and I seriously doubt he's turning something into a bluff. He might be overvaluing a weak ace a small % of the time, but not enough to make this call profitable.

Actually, the river changes nothing. It can even be considered a blank. If you were beaten on the flop, you're still beat. And if you are ahead, you're still ahead. Just flat his 80% PSB river bet. It doesnt make sense for him to take this line with that many worse hands or as a bluff, so raising doesn't accomplish much of anything.

Ahh thanks Minh, that's a great analysis. So it seems that I mistakenly thought that the ace on the river improved my relative hand strength. I should have kept my goal of seeing a cheap showdown.
