$5 NL HE 6-max: Difficult spot on river, could i have avoided it??

Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 42/17/3

Stats over just 12 hands.

Don't really know what to say about this hand, cept that it was a really shitty spot and i felt that i didnt need to have been there at the river. What do you guys think of my line, should i have barrelled the turn?? And am i good on the river or is this a house/flush trying to look like a bluff??

These are some ideas that are taken from one of the articles that C9 posted in the Cash game required readings (I feel like I'm in school when I say that):

These are the hands that the min-raiser had at showdown. One thing to keep in mind is that these are not the hands that the min-raiser had at the time of the actual min-raise (flop or turn). But it still shows some interesting things.

76% of the min-raisers had 2-pair or better hand.
97% had 1 pair or better.

Not best hand: It's probably safe to say that when min-raised, your top pair hand is behind 75% of the time, or will be by the river without any draws. Maybe a little less than that for your overpair.

No Fold Equity: 99% of the time the min-raiser will go on to see a showdown, so don't try to bluff him/her out unless you have a good read/notes.

Great Implied Odds: This does give you GREAT implied odds if you have a good draw.

I think you played the hand fine and I think it's a fold on the river. Of course this data was taken from 25NL & 50NL so there is a chance that the competition we see at 5NL is different.

I don't mind the way you played. If you 3-bet the flop you are really swelling the pot with just TP2K.

The river shove looks like it will be bluffs and worse Aces a lot so I would call and note if he Checked the flush or AK on the turn if he does have it.

I think villain is allways doing this for value, but the good news is he is a fish and will prolly do this for value with any ace :).

He is probably gonna show u 44/A8/flush alot of times but the fact the Ad is on the board decreses the amounts of flushes in his range and the amounts of ace combos are obvs. also way down.

His range is massivly polarized...

Calling and folding are probably both fine, calling obvs. beeing very high varience but his high AF(3 for a 47VP is huge) makes me prefer calling.

I bet the turn & snap call the river for what its worth. Betting the turn will really give you a much better idea for where you are in the hand, as I don't think fish check/raise the turn on a bluff, but they will shove the river when you "show weakness". His 3 AF makes all the min-raise reads go out the window, especially since this is blind vs. blind.

just 12 hands is not quite enough to make any good assumptions, and a massive overbet is not a pleasant place to be, but i still would call. high variance, but you get to see much more about how this guy plays (assuming you ever meet him again), and it would be a lower ace a lot of the time.

I get the blind vs blind, but AF of 3 over 12 hands? Does that mean anything?

His range is massivly polarized...

What exactly does this mean?? As you say its massively polarised you could use my hand as an example, this would help me loads b/c ive seen it spoken about but never really understood tbh.

Cheers for all the answers guys, I actually folded the river here, i'm not sure how to deal with massive overbets when i'm not holding the nuts/near nuts, as this hand might show.

fwiw i think that my range here is quite narrow as well in the villains eyes, he can be quite sure i have at least an ace, if not a flush so if he's sat on a house or the nut flush with the ace coming on the river and tripping me up it looks like a good spot for him to shove for value as he can reasonably expect a call at 5nl from most villains there with trips/worse flush's.... sadly though i ended up with 98 hands on this guy and he really overvalued his ace rag hands, which probably means my chances of being ahead here were a lot better than i thought, i only had 12 hands on him at the time though so i couldnt tell that :(

polarized: his hands consist of ones that are either way ahead of yours or complete bluffs.

Why do you assume he is a thinking player after only 12 hands? He has only seen you play 12 hands also.
