Hand is quite standard until the river where villain shoves. He could very likely have a flush and with the community cards we both have a straight

I wanted to check/call the river but then he shoved.
So the question is, was the fold here the right play?

Not only could he have had a flush, if he had a 6 he could also have a larger straight than you. On the other hand he could have just said what the heck we are splitting the pot anyways might as well go all in and see if you fold. Which you did, so good play on his part to rep the flush. Yeah, I have been thinking about a lot of the hands that make it on to a forum and why they are more tricky than standard default lines, it's because they are mostly mariginal high variance hands. I personally fold in marginal high variance spots and just wait until I am in a more obvious +EV spot and get it in good. If you get into one of those spots even just a couple times an hour you have good ROI. Avoiding marginal spots is optimal. Calling here is just guessing whether or not he has it or not, I prefer to be the one to put others in to those hard decisions.

Yup... easy fold. If he bluffs or pushes you off a split here, tip your cap.

I guess everyone would do the same on this position on the river , check and fold . Maybe I 'd bet less on turn and river because of flush and straght drAW and oop , but that's what I would do :)

Villain is trying to induce you so it's look like an easy fold there against the villain possible flush.
