This is one of those things I've found myself doing so many times..

Getting married to AQ (particularly with a nut flush draw) is one of those things you should just avoid. "Can't believe he didn't fold" has been a thought process for me so many times it hurts..At these stakes though, it's gonna happen a lot if you're bluffing/semi bluffing (especially given that you have no info at all on UTG villain). Also he's raising UTG, so if he is in anyway playing with position in mind (possible he isn't at $5 though!) he's holding at least a decent/mid pocket pair or maybe broadways. Presumably he had something like KJ? If that's the case these are the spots that you want to be holding a little better than top pair top kicker. A lot of people will stack off with that at $5 tables.

I'm at the same stakes currently, and what I'm finding is that playing straightforward ABC poker works out the best. Obviously mix things up, but stacking off with a bluff I don't really recommend, given that so many people at low stakes are heavy calling stations - you want to use that to your advantage.

Tbh though I think the play is fine up to the river, particularly if you're leading with the intention of bluffing the pot and maybe catching a spade. But 2 calls and he's probably committed, given that he's clearly not scared by the spades and the 3d and 2d are pretty much dead cards unless he's made a set with some super fishy pocket pairs.

That's at least my thought process anyway.

I don't know if others would call this too passive, but even a flat call with AQ is fine pre flop IMO. You have no info on the guy, and it makes it much easier mentally to back out of that pot post flop. You'd see the turn and river a lot cheaper, but of course wouldn't make as much if you hit!

Yeah lack of information on the villain is the problem with this hand. You want to play AQ but you are against UTG so what should the initial raise be, if any against an unknown utg when you are going to be oop?
I think your raise is just ok but personally id make it 40-45c. I either want to take it down immediately or know im up against a strong hand. If we raise too small every piece of junk is coming along.
I don't mind call/fit and fold this early in the session oop against unknown utg.
The turn and river are bricks so if he's called the turn he's probably calling the river as well unless he was on a draw in which case we don't need to bluff the river anyway . There isn't any scare card to help your cause here.

I guess a check-raise does look more frightening heh... perhaps on the turn.
