Donk betting pot is weird though, he is repping 99. I think I would call just to see what he has lol. Oh wait, that is why I don't have the roll...

I would rather check turn and call river..
you did not raised before the flop, he might think that you do not have Ax

1) Raise pre
2) Check back this flop (WA/WB spot)
3) Vomit on the river and fold

I think the above is good information to help us maybe play this hand differently in the future. It's all opponent dependent really.

What do you beat here within his range?

I think the way this player plays (and many recreationals do), they're going to give the lead to the hero here to build a pot only to bomb the river and force our hero into a very bad spot.

They're generally ABC players who are weak/passive and essentially play their cards face-up.

I think there are no hands here that our hero beats, and villain's range is most likely pocket 4's or A6. Hero has an Ace blocker to Aces and villain is unlikely to limp with Aces (though many seem to now).

They MIGHT have pocket 9's and got you on the river, but I think the way it played, it's most likely 4's.

I would rather check turn and call river..

Against opponents with a high VPIP to PFR ratio, I would take exactly that line (check turn and call river). If nothing else, you get valuable information on villain here especially since they now have to show you their hand. Plus, it's easier to call a pot-sized bet on the river if it's only 5 bb's and not 10 bb's. Plus, there is a slight chance you might have the winning hand.

Im calling this river... its more likely a bad bluff but sure sometimes beat. But villain could easily have whiffed draws and taking a stab

Your turn bet is small enough to induce this bluff

But usually when opponents bet into you on river they have it. But not always :)

Appreciate the feedback.

Spoiler: I folded thinking given how tight and passive villain was he must have had a strong ace or better. Later in the session he did the same thing against another player and folded to a re-raise, those were the only two times he led out of position on the river, that left me suspicious.
