So it was my second Pocket Ace for the night, my first being cracked to 2-pair with a caller (K-Q off suit). However, I have been practicing my value betting lately and want to know if I could have played this hand better against this opponent.

The villain in question has demonstration aggressive behavior if he picks up that his opponent heads-up (or multi opponents) are weak, EVEN IF he has nothing. I've seen him throw tons of money into previous pots with Ace high hoping to push his opponent out. So here we go...

I'm on the button with $6.40 and dealt pocket ace's. In my cutoff is the villain with $3.44.

UTG+1: $1.69
MP: $1.15
CO: $3.44
Hero (BTN): $6.64
SB: $2.15
BB: $2.15
UTG: $2.61

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is BTN with A  A :diamond:
3 folds, CO calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.40, 2 folds, CO calls $0.30

Flop: ($0.95) 7 :spade: K  A :club: (2 players)
CO checks, Hero checks

Turn: ($0.95) 6 :diamond: (2 players)
CO bets $0.10, Hero calls $0.10

River: ($1.15) T  (2 players)
CO bets $0.40, Hero raises to $1, CO folds

Obviously I won, and my strategy worked a little bit to milk some, but overall could I have played it better? Could I have extracted more or induce an all-in?

I'm putting the villain on maybe KJ, small pocket pair, or maybe pocket Jacks, however with this particular player I can't give him much of a range because if he had a King, Ace, pocket Q's J's 10's or 9's he would have showdowned with me I believe.

bet the flop. Im guessing you're playing 20bb-50bb 10nl which is full of fish. Fish love drawing and middle pair so you'll usually get a call which builds the pot for later streets.

also maybe stop playing 20bb-50bb, i heard it's not that good of a game. Maybe someone else can comment on it?

Interesting. Thanks for the reply.

I have not really considered that 20-50BB would be full of fish but it does make sense. I often find myself battling to find tables, especially at night, where the majority of players stacks are the absolute minimum (20BB) and using Short Stack Strategy (SSS).

I would be very interested to hear if someone else can comment on that as well. I wouldn't be against moving up the buy-in stake if it would kill some fish in the process.

we want fish but the problem is we get into shitty spots playing when we and other people have short stacks

If by "shitty" you mean "Its so shitty I can only take 50 big blinds from this fish at a time, instead of 250" then yes, we get into shitty spots.
