Hi guys I recently played an interesting hand at a 2/5 NL table and would like some feedback on the way I approached the hand.

Starting stacks:

Hero: $1200
Villain: $1000

Villain limps in MP. Hero opens to $30 on the BTN holding K:diamond: K:heart:. It gets folded around to villain who calls.

The flop comes: 3:diamond: 6:heart: 7:heart: $67 in pot

Villain checks. Hero bets $40. Villain min-raises to $80. Hero calls.

The turn brings a J:spade: $227 in pot

Villain bets $100. Hero calls.

The river brings a T:club:

Villain checks. Hero ????

Villain is a loose passive fish who tends to get aggressive with a made hand so with that being said and given the fairly deep stack sizes I opted to flat his flop min-raise and evaluate his action on further streets. His less than half pot turn bet indicates a relatively weak hand compared to KK given that sets and straights would have confidently fired big on such an irrelevant card but you just never know with such players so I opted to flat the turn. Villain checks the river so at this point would you opt to check back the river or make a value bet? Could I have re-raised any previous streets for value?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

With the pot at $427 I'd probably just check-behind. If your read was more along the line of the villain playing OESFD or NFD aggressivly before the hand is made then a $125 VB would be my line (but it would be really gross to have villain shove over the top of a VB).

By his aggression, he surely has a hand. We dont know where we stand.

I think the safest action here is simply to check back.

I could see him playing hands like A7, 88, or 99 this way which may call a riverbet. He could be doing something weird with a set or possibly rivered a straight. There are probably more of those so no point in value betting. There are possibly a decent amount of missed hands, but most of those aren't calling a riverbet anyway. I'd probably check and expect to win the hand a decent amount of the time.

Actually I've changed my mind. I think you can make a small 1/3 pot for value. Fold to any raise size though.

I'm hesitant to bet the river here as well. I think I would have checked too. I am curious though at $2-$5 what level of mind games are going on. For instance, if he correctly put you on an over-pair, and he did make his hand on the river, he might check here expecting you to value bet and is waiting to come over top.

I don't know how often people check good/made hands on the river at your stakes, but I tend to err on the side of caution in situations like this.

We can bet for value here after this check on the river. He probably check raised us with a weaker hand than us or a draw that didn't get there.

Make him pay for so that so that next time he thinks thrice before he decides to check raise us. It is easy to miss value in this spot and checking is what most people will end up doing here that's because of villain's check raise. But i think we can extract some more value here.

I would check here just to possibly save what stack you have. VB is going to get a call or if he has hit, a shove back and more lost chips.

if we get check raised here we can fold and be confident that villain has the nutz.

villain is a passive fish so I cant see him check raising as a bluff.
although hes folding a decent amont with missed draws , I think he calls a lot with worse , I think this is a good spot for VB. I would prob go with something closer to 200
