2/5 game everyones stacks were around even at 500 pretty early in the morning 2 guys with over 2k been there all night. But not sure if i played this hand bad or just bad luck. There was a 10$ straddle and two limpers before me and I limped in the cutoff with pocket 5 and big blind raised to 60. Originally i had no intention of calling but two other people called so i figured had some odds to flop a set. Flop comes down 5s4h3s i really didn't think anyone was calling the raise with a2 or 67 so original raiser leads for a 100 next guy folds next guy calls and i tank and end up shipping my remaining stack. He tanks for awhile and ends up calling showing AsKs and turn and river come 7s Qs and i was out. I keep trying to figure out a way i could have thrown it away or play cautiously but froms the odds perspective i want that call everytime.

You're almost a 70% favourite in the flop. It sounds like you played it fine to me. The guy who called you was chasing a draw and hit. 30% of the time he is not hitting and you're taking down that pot.

I don't think I'd be throwing a set away so easily and I'd say you made the right move.

Think of it this way, you have 30 percent chance of drawing to the likely nuts that is full house... That equity alone warrants a shove given that the pot will be two times your shove size if any of the two live fish calls.

And sets can also win without improving, overpairs are very likely o this board

Ya thats what I was thinking. No reason to be in the hand to flop a set if i am going to fold it on the flop. Only way to lay it down was preflop

Rodney - Ya when he went in to the tank i figured he had AA or KK because i figured aj+ of spades was a snap considering what was in the pot and he only had about 300 behind with about 400 in the pot plus my shove. So i wasn't to concerned with spade on turn it was the spade on river that i thought that killed me.

Why concern over something you have no control over? :)

It happens to the best of us.
I would have called too, the only other idea is on the tight side.
You need to Have 8 to 10 times the bet to call profitably
