this is probably ok because he most likely has a lower king than one higher than you.

Couple of things i did find wrong:

looks like you posted without waiting for the big blind, don't do this you'll lose more in the long run.

You probably should've raised preflop.

how come you didn't raise the flop?

Without reads I would call; until you know someone isn't capable of bluffing here or randomly spazzing I think you have to go ahead and snap it but you're going to be beat here a lot.

btw, one card in your hand and two on the board is trips, not a set.

absolutely agree with you on waiting for the BB, i normally do, but this time i decided to be 'adventurous' and paid for it :)

and i probably should have raised too, if i decided to play this hand
i'm still only learning

incidentally while it's natural to get excited when you make 3 kings, keep in mind your relative hand-strength has not changed.

you have to think of the relative likely holdings for your opponent in this hand. He's in the big blind and did not raise, so we can usually rule out hands such as AA, AK or KK.

So what does he likely have? Kx is the most likely...several of his Kx holdings are beating you: KQ, KJ, KT. You are losing to K2, K4 and beating K8, K7, K6, K5, K3, all of which are possible since he's the BB.

He could also have a set of deuces to which you're drawing dead, or maybe he's pushing a big combo draw like J9ss.

against his range of hands, the third king doesn't help much unless he was betting something like T2.

It'd be a different story if you were holding, say, T9 against a preflop raiser and the flop comes T-high...he could be betting overpairs often, so a second T on the board helps your relative hand strength immensely against his range.

It's not 'adventurous', it's wasting money. Seriously, it's significant.

Not sure I agree with raising the flop. I think it's ok with a small raise and turn bet, checking back river, but otherwise this is definitely not a hand we're looking to build a huge pot with.

I guess calling is ok if you see him doing this with any K and maybe some busted draws, but these are hands you have to learn to instamuck when you're up against competent players.

@ baudib1

I figured he probably had Kx and I went all in without giving it too much thought, hoping my king would hold up against his. But after your hand analysis I can understand and see my situation more clearly. My chances of winning is about 50/50. I should have been thinking like that at the table and then deciding if I want to take the risk. Unfortunately he had K4...
Anyway this helped a lot.

Point taken.

fyi my last line was with regards to the river shove, not flatting the flop.
