Obviously turn and river are from hell, but should I instead be betting out the river? In retrospect I kind of like betting the river, because he may still call down with worse (okay not too likely), and he's almost certainly raising me with a straight. But if we bet the river he's gonna have a harder time bluffing and representing a straight. When I check the river it's sort of the green light to him to represent the straight with ATC, and there's really nothing I can do but fold. Thoughts?

Nh.

You could maybe turn your hand into a bluff and bet the river, but the draws make up a big chunk of villain's range. Check/fold is good.

The jack on the turn is also bad for you. Given villain's laggy stats though, I keep pressing the bet button.

Thanks guys. I try to post most questionable hands, even where I think I'm okay, but not sure - it's really great to get the feedback on what I did right! (There's usually not too much of that :D)

I think I've officially gained enough discipline to start beating (if not crushing) the $4 Merge stakes now. Just a question of not simultaneously running into a down-swing.

That's not really a great turn card to barrel on. It two pairs a lot of the hands that we suspect he may have that were worse on the flop. It also completes the gutshot with over, KT. I would just slow down here a lot and either check/call or check/fold to a big bet. Always ask yourself 2 things when making a bet. Is it for value or is it a bluff. I don't think we can say yes definitely in the former and there is no reason to do the latter. Don't just bet for the sake of betting. As played fold river, you beat nothing.

I don't see any way you can call the river. Its not just a straight that you need to worry about. If he is calling the flop and turn, that Kd makes so many realistic hands that can beat you, 2 pair, flush, straight. That's assuming he didnt already have you beat on the flop or turn.

You played it well. I like leading out on flop and turn. The river was unfortunate and you saved some money. Good fold.
