$4 NLHE Full Ring: Extremely loose villian overbets the turn after I check to ctrl pot size

Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 68/3.5/40

I have 56 hands on villian, and he has been being an Elephant with a capital "E". He could have anything in this spot. The reason the hand is in plain text is because the CC hand converter does not support Merge Network :-(

I want to explain why I checked the turn. I wanted to keep the pot small, because I assumed he would check behind and then I could make a less than half pot bet on the river and hopefully induce a call from a ten or a weak ace.

Merge - $0.04 NL - Holdem - 8 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3: http://www.pokertracker.com

MP: $10.88
MP+1: $6.81
Hero (CO): $4.44
BTN: $4.79
SB: $4.61
BB: $5.21
UTG: $4.00
UTG+1: $6.90

SB posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.04

Pre Flop: ($0.06) Hero has Kd Ad

fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.12, BTN calls $0.12, fold, fold

Flop: ($0.30, 2 players) 7s As Tc
Hero bets $0.20, BTN calls $0.20

Turn: ($0.70, 2 players) 7c
Hero checks, BTN bets $1.04

Hero?

If he has any A or any T he is going to bet. The 7 in the turn changed nothing as it is less likely that he holds a 7, so I would prefer to keep betting. It's not like you have a weak A.

Firstly, probs raise to .16 pf, 4x is standard and works better in lower level games.

Flop 2/3 c-bet is fine - could make it .25 if we were being fussy for an extra bit of value.

No turn cards should scare us here i dont think and the 7 opens up even more flush draws which is a good thing so definitely bet the turn, like .55 - .65

And bet the river for value also if he called that.

So i dont like the way you checked the turn, and when villain bets out an over pot sized bet i think he's full of shit and im shoving him all in here and hoping he calls with a T or a weaker A, or a flush draw.

My line of thinking was that by checking the turn, I would keep the pot from ballooning out of control. After his omgwtfoverbet, I felt that flatting was out of the question since it just looks so strong and would probably make him fold any river, so I had to decide whether to shove or fold. I wonder if I had bet the 3/4 pot on the turn if he would have raised me or flatted, because it would have looked pretty bluffy on my end.

Why would it look pretty bluffy? I think it's much easier to bet and fold to a raise than it is to check.

wait wait wait, the one thing we really want to happen when we have TOP PAIR TOP KICKER!! against a huge drooling loose whale, is for the pot to balloon out of control :) There is nothing to be scared of against this guy on this board, so what if a small percentage of time he shows up with a 7, i can see this guy stacking off with any ace here, maybe even a middle pair if hes bad enough and maybe even flush draws, top pair top kicker is super strong, bet bet bet!

These guys are usually always doubters, they dont believe you ever have hands, they like to see flops and call down when they hit anything, you cant pass opportunities to rinse these guys of their money :)

I kinda want to shove now. I also vote for betting the turn.

Top pair top kicker is one of those "iffy" hands. We want to get it all in sometimes, but not others. And it matters *how* the money goes in with top pair top kicker.

Against a drooler, as long as they don't baluga us or something, I'm very comfortable bet/bet/betting all the money in.

60 vpip villain + tptk on a drawy board...I don't see where pot control should come in. Bet/bet/bet, and big.

+100000000, against this guy there is no real reason to not let the pot get big here

You guys were right. I ended up calling the omgshove and doubled when he tabled A-8 offsuit.

Everyone here agrees that my check on the turn turned out to be a pretty big mistake. I have been reading up on profitable play at the micros and the correct play was to bet again, and to bet big. Thanks for the advice. :)
