I got a villain who wants to pay with his "almost nut" but did I bet ok or was it possible to get him all-in by betting differently ?

TIA,

You should raise or fold pre. Betting turn would be nice. The min raise war on the river tilts me, if you just made a standard 3x his raise, you might elicit a shove.

Erm... a minor point, but it's impossible to get him all in when he's got more chips than anyone else at the table.

Whether it's possible to extract more money from him earlier in the hand really depends on your attitude to risk. To make more than you did you'd have to have been betting on a draw and since he had nothing until the river, he probably would've folded to a flop or turn bet.

On the river, I agree with goborage - raise more than the minimum and you'll make more money.

I think it has to be a fold EP here... not even a call and certainly not a raise.

The problem, as I see it, is that the he is short stacked. He has only 30BB

So if he raises and gets even a single caller then he creates a favourable situation for getting all-in. But will he be happy to do it with A9? will his opponents stack off with A rag?

A pair of Aces is his most likely hand postflop. So if he wouldnt be happy playing his most likelyhand... then its not one to play. Had he had more chips, then he could play it as a flush drawing hand.. but as is.. anychips going in the pot make a stack ratio more suitable for top pair.

As played the turn should be semi bluff raised... he has a gunshot straight draw and the nut flush draw.. pluse a pair of aces might be ok.. so his outs are high.

This may win the pot now or may set up a bigger pot for if he hits his flush.

A 3/4 - pot size bet would be fine. Now the pot woulbe be 40c - 48c with his stack at around $1

A pot sized raise on the turn followed by a pot sized reraise would than put him all in

Hero is UTG +1. He had 100bbs. But ya I agree that folding would be best in either scenario.

I actually thought he was UG+2 LOL

Even if we treat his stack of 3.92 as the effective stack (in reality the lowest is still 1.18) we still dont want more that 20c in the pot preflop as our A9 is really just a flush drawing hand.

We just dont want a raise with this hand. In EP we can never be very certain that a raise wont happen so it just has to get folded.
