Just finished a session and was looking for some input on this hand I played.

Hero 10/10/1
UTG+1 41/4/2 over 112 hands
MP 18/8/2 over 100 hands

Alright so I check preflop instead of raising because I don't wanna be playing in a raised pot oop with 8s. Once I hit top set I fire pot to start getting some money in there. Turn I'm betting for value from worse sets, 9s, kings figure if I'm behind I'll find out here. Since I didn't get raised on the turn I gotta think my hand is good enough to bet on the river right? Where did I screw up?

Merge - $0.04 NL - Holdem - 8 players

If you have 2 callers on this board on the flop, that probably means straight draws or worse, already completed straights.

I would check river since it completes a backdoor flush draw and some kind of suited connectors are very possible in his hand here since he limped from MP and didn't fold yet.

- Could be A6 of clubs, where 6 pairs the board and gives him bottom pair Ace kicker. He speculatively calls the flop, picks up the nut flush draw and decides to try his luck?
- Also possible and maybe more likely is A5/A9 of clubs, with 8 outs for a straight and that backdoor flush possibility.

I am paranoid when I get such persistent caller if he doesn't have silly stats.

Edit: Corrected some text.

If he goes All In I fold without a second thought. Calling those has cost me a lot and they are rarely bluffs.

Bet more on the river, then have to call it off.

As played its probably a fold, although only the backdoor flush makes sense, you would expect a straight to have raised before the river.

I really wish I knew what he had. I asked and he said air but I don't believe it. So betting the river is the right play here?
