I went with a gut feeling, this isn't my usual strategy (good job, lol!). Following the action pre-flop I put the villian on AK. He has a pretty high c-bet% so expected a c-bet. I snapped called the flop to see how he would react and he insta shoved the turn. I thought the insta shove showed weakness and he seemed to be agressive so I elected to call, any thoughts?

Snap calling is usually weakness as you don't want villain to barrel again. Don't snap call. Think before you act. I would expect his cbet to be slightly lower if it was 2 overcards imo (just a estimate). Anyway your gut feeling will get better the more u play. He insta-shoves because he is a weak player wanting to get it all in asap with Q/Q so he overbets turn because he can't wait :) (either that or he is the sickest player ever if he knew that you would interpret it as weakness :p). Just play standard poker at these stakes. GL.

my thoughts on this are...

1) put players on a range not a particular hand. For instance, this 19/16 TAG style player (assuming 6max) with a 3bet of 10%. Hard to say what range he will be 3betting from the blinds from but if he 3bets the top 10% hes 3 betting this....

88+, A9s+, KTs+, QTs+, AJo+, KQo

2) probs should be set mining 6s here or 4bet in which case we are not getting good implied odds

call another $0.24 x 20 (setmining rule) = $4.80 which is greater than the effective stack size.

Fold pre.

Fold pre, fold flop, fold turn (although the turn call is the only forgivable street). Nothing here is good. And I second pocketehs' assertion, you put your opponent on a range, not one hand.

Thanks guys I realize it was bad all round. Great advice as always!

Edit: I've actually read about the set mining rule x20 and totally forgot about it, thanks for the reminder.

yeah I fold pre. But look as you call flop you look weak, looks like you dont have a draw or a set or anything like that. He puts you up to jacks. Ok even if he does that with AK sometimes but ussualy he will have KK AA QQ. But AK is just a mix into that all. You cant expose it. He also can hit that A or K. But thats just what I think.
