The easy spot to get away is by folding pre-. Opening 42s isn't the worst play in the history of poker, but what combination of circumstances has to exist for it to be +EV, and even then, how + will it be?

Nope, you ain't getting away unless you fold PF or x/f flop..

OTT its a cooler and I'm personally going no where, and I'm C betting flop when I hit my pair like you with the plan slow down OTT if I get called and don't improve..

When I hit trips I'm not getting away here and I'm loving it that my steal worked out.. then I see his kicker and cry ;)

Very difficult to get away from this hand as more often you will have the best hand come fifth street, and you have to put him all in considering the stack he had left because you will be shoving for value and he will call with any higher pair or two pair. So this is just bad luck and no this is the right way to play this hand in my mind as checking the river will be conservative means more often than not you will miss out on extracting value from such strong hands. Coolered, move on.

Dark, with all due respect, you were SB in a 3-handed game. All you could steal is $0.04 off the BB. You need to pick your spots better

No you can't get away. This is an example of why you don't open 24 though. Very few times OOP will something go right for you.

Nope.
Its 3 handed so I dont expect him he holds the other two.

Above all, your mistake is on the preflop.

This.

People often get into these weird spots with junk hands where they've connected well with the board and have a decent holding like trips or bottom two yet get outkcked or lose to a higher 2-pair. Fold pre and save some money in these spots.

Important point too is that stealing with junk vs someone with a 68% VPIP is not going to work most of the time, especially since you can't outplay the fish as easily oop post flop.
