This is a 6 handed 4NL ring game at Carbon.

I am on BTN with AQos. Two limpers in front. I raised to 20c. Only CO calls.

Flop comes AQ2 all spades.

CO checks, I bet 40c into 50c. He calls.

Turn comes a Q giving me a FH. He checks. I decide to check giving him a chance to hit a flush if he's on a draw.

The river is another Q. He checks.

The pot is $1.30. I have about $2.50 left.

Optimal bet amount?

I decide to shove here knowing he will call if he has an ace.

Please critique each street.

Another vote for turn bet.

I would tend to bet the turn for the the same reason I wouldn't usually bluff at it.

I'm just wondering exactly why all the votes for betting the turn. Just so I'll know the rationale behind it. Does that make it less likely that you have the Queen and in some way make it more profitable? Thanks.

1. Because slowplaying the nuts is what fish do. Also fish expect you to slowplay the nuts so they never give you credit for betting the nuts.

2. If he has a flush he's not folding and if he has a flush draw he's not folding and if he has an Ace he's not folding and if he has a Q he's not folding so what's the point of not betting again?

3. The Q is a scary card on this board and he might bluff it to get us off Ax.

4. If he has a draw like KsJx and the river bricks there's no chance he's putting more money in.

5. Makes river shove a lot easier if we bet the turn, he's forced to call off river with a ton of holdings getting good odds.

I agree. I should have bet the turn. Luckily for me he called the river shove anyway. He only had JJ but still called. If I bet the turn, he'd call for sure.

I don't have much time on the clock at carbon to think before acting so my first instinct was to pretend like I was afraid of the Q.

the problem with checking the turn is that if your opponent does have a flush draw, he's only gonna pay you off on the river if he hits. If you bet the turn, you'll collect the bet there, and then if he hits he'll pay you off again. If he whiffs, then you've already collected more $$ than you would have by checking.

yeah can i join? bet the turn, shove the river.

if you think he is drawing bet something smaller or the turn, like half the pot. or 60c, whatever you think he will call.

What was the villian's starting stack size? In cases where I have the nuts, I adjust my bet sizes in a way that will end up getting the most or their entire stack in the middle by the river if it takes that long.

Without any information, I'd agree with everyone else, bet the turn. Something between .40-.50 on the turn making it look like a weak probe. If you're really up against a fish and they sense weakness they'll call or raise that because of what's on the table looking scary to you. And then on the river if he's not already all in, low bet him if he checks, or raise all in if he bets.
