This is a discussion on $4 NLHE 6-max: Calling 3-bets with pocket pairs within the online poker forums, in the Cash Game Hand Analysis section; I open UTG with 55 to 12 cents. (2/4 cent blinds, 6-MAX)
BTN 3-bets to 42 cents and BB comes along.
Is any pocket pair here a
My calling range is like 77-JJ. I'll 3 bet the remaining top pockets, and fold the bottom ones. Reasoning is avoidance of the set over set situation and playing small pair OOP after the flop.

But what is the gameplan on bb and sb with low pocket pairs vs EP or BTN open?

You should open that range up a little against the BTN open and tighten it up against EP open. My ranges are a little looser in the BB than in the SB.

re: Poker & $4 NLHE 6-max: Calling 3-bets with pocket pairs
Calling 3 bets with smaller pocket pairs used to be considered really bad. My experience with the play now is that a lot of micro players just go into monkey spew mode in 3 bet pots and will often bluff off their entire stack with little or nothing.
You need to know your player, but I think it may now be profitable to set mine in 3 bet pots (particularly if another player comes along).

With the cold caller and the added implied odds i think set mining is ok with any pair here. The 3bet is a little larger than 3x though so perhaps that's also something to consider.
