(Carbon cash game, no hand converter available sorry)

First rotation at new table, no reads or stats on villain.

AsQs on BTN, opened to 13c. SB folds, BB calls.

Pot 28c

Flop's Ac2s5c. BB checks. I cbet 22c. He calls.

Pot 70c

Turn is 3d. He checks again. I checked.

River is Kh. He bets out 35c. I call.

Too passive on Turn? The reason I checked was that I've run into ace rags two pairs too often in situations like this, and if I get raised, I am in a tough spot. I planned to bet the river if a safe card came and he checked again. Since he led out, I just called.

So should I bet/fold the turn instead of checking?

I would personally bet the turn again. You're worried about him catching 2 pair with a weaker kicker, but by checking the turn you're giving him a free card to be able to do just that. On the river I would check/call like you did, because nothing will change the hand. I'm assuming when you ask whether you should bet/fold the turn you mean you would fold the turn if a bet was check-raised. There is absolutely no reason to fold the best hand to a check, but a check-raise would be a reasonable fold depending on how much the raise is for.

I don't believe you can just check the turn based on past misfortune. Its not your fault he calls a raise from the big blind with Ace Rag and gets lucky. If he does that long term he's a loser, not you.

AJ, A10 are calling your cbet. AK 3bets preflop so not likely. Plenty of other marginal hands (1010, 99 etc) could conceivably call the flop too. Don't let him make a set or two pair cheaply by seeing the river for free. Bet the turn and fold if he leads into you on the river (as you are likely beat). Check the river if he doesn't bet (I'd still value bet though).

You said you often run by Ace rag 2pair. So, I would do the same thing you did. I dont want to be check raised on the turn and doesn't know what to do next. At the same time I minimize the size of the pot. Even if he beats river, I would still call.

^This^

You need to play this hand vs. this opponent and his likely range. If you get into making decisions you know to be sub-optimal because they didn't always work out in the past, how far do you take this? Say I call a shove with AA and lose to rags. If this happens 3 times in a row, should I start folding? If not 3, then what's the number? 5? Maybe 5 out of 7?
