I was dealt A9 on the BB
Flop - AAA - i checked but someone bet $1 (.50/$1 NL) so i just called
Turn - J - i checked again - he bet $1 again, i call again.
River -J - so with a boat on board and im sitting with quads i bet $5 - he calls

Not a massive pot but i was going on the theory that if i re-raised at anytime i could have lost what profit i could make, and if he was happy just popping out $1 to me each time, who was i to decline

I think that was a good play beardyian to get what you could without them folding. I think it's better to bid small amount with keeping them interested and making more, than to make large bid and them folding,with making less chips. Wsorbust I agree with Chuck to bad you were short stacked but still very nice hand.

Umm...maybe he thought a 4-card flush was good? Actually though, I think your bets were just small enough on the flop and turn to make him think you didn't really have the Ace. He is probably the type to have pushed all-in w/ AQ in the first place, and most definitely would have pushed after that flop.
