What do you think about the hand, especially the turn and river?

If you're leading the river, how much and why?

I would have re-raised on Flop to 8-10 and then overbet pot on the Turn.

To me a low set is great to hit - but they are vulnerable even on rainbow flops. My philosophy is I want to make people pay for loose calls with overcards/overpairs when I am leading. If I get beat by runner runner, I want all the chips in when I am ahead.

At this level people will call with AJ, AT, QQ, KK, AA with an overbet on the turn and even possibly AK,AQ, 89. 9Q, FD I want all of these people to call big bets when I am leading. If they have JJ, TT, or 44 then I reload.

I think you have to throw a bet or raise in there somewhere, preferably on the flop. If your opponent missed with AK, AQ or KQ, you weren’t going to make much off him anyway. But if he is willing to stack off with an overpair or top pair (which a lot of players are) you need to build the pot and make it happen. Betting out on the flop gives him an opportunity to raise you, and you can either 3-bet all in or go for the turn c/r all in, depending on whether you think he will bet the turn and how likely he is to call the 3-bet.

As played, I would lead the river for half the pot and call a raise, getting 3:1 on my money. I think he pushes with an overpair or TPTK enough to make it a good call.

definitely raise on the turn if the other players has something they will pay you off usualy. so i would raise that 8 to about 18 and if he calls that and w/e he bets on river i would push all in.

I think you should just lead the betting the whole way. If you bet a hair more on the flop you can get it AI by the river. If you think you can get c/r him and he will continue to call down you could also go that way with a c/t-bet-bet line. This would get you AI. If not if you bet 5-15-45 you can get it AI. If you think he will call a larger be than 5 your might try 6. This would make the river bet a little smaller.

Thanks for the input. The reason I c/c the flop was to get more money in. I knew he would c-bet the flop and as I had a pretty tight image if I raised first OOP chances are he folds. Also, I wanted to give him a chance to pair an A/K or something like that.

I lead the turn when another heart hits. I think this is pretty standard. I also think an overpair would re-raise me here and I could shove over the top. TPTK could raise back again here too.

The queen is the last card I wanted to see, so I c/c.

He flips AK for broadway.

Results aside I still hear the call to build the pot and basically get it all-in which I agree with.

The way I play those small sets is to play them like my opponent has a big hand (overpair). If he got AK you're not going to get a really big amount of money in the pot anyway (unless he draws out on you like the case was here). So I usually like to either lead out on the flop or c/r the flop and lead out after that. If you think he got AK you're likely better off c/r'ing depending on how likely the c-bet is. I play lower than 50NL, so I'm not 100% sure this tactic will work there as well.

I think you played it very well. And a very good check on river.

Normally I would bet out at the flop making it look like a steal attempt, and if i get raised i will just flat call, if he just calls my bet then its all good

on the turn i check to make it look like i dont want to steal anymore

he then bets at it and here is where you check raise all in!

YES paid off unless he hits runner runner broadway:mad: :(
