Against this villain, I agree.
On the other hand, against more elaborate villains, DM's reasoning has one drawback: AK is the single hand in our range that we raise for more than the pot preflop. That makes us predictable against observing opponents and remove the fold equity against small pocket pairs which is an important part of why we play AK so agressively preflop.
There's a video on stox (but i'm terrible at remembering which) where a villain does what DM suggests, and the coach says: this is always AK, i call here with any pocket pair.
