25nl AA utg
Carbon poker 25nl full ring

Stacks:
sb: 50bb
bb: 100bb
utg:120bb
utg +1: 80bb
...
...
Button: 200bb.

Dealt to me utg: :ac4: :ah4:

utg: calls .25
utg +1 calls .25
all others fold to button
button raises to $1.25
sb folds
bb folds
utg: raises to $4.75
button: folds

I do not normally slow play aces but this player had raised every hand (8-10 orbits) on the button since I had been at table. Is this a good strategy/bad strategy/indifferent strategy. Obviously if he had just called and sb completed, bb checked, I am not liking this too much with with 4 callers in a limped pot.

Looks good to me. Although if he 3-bets a lot, you should probably just go ahead and open for a standard raise and let him squeeze you.

I don't really like this because as soon as you raise there you basically tell him exactly what you have. So sure you get a free $1.25, but you're not getting any more money if you re-raise because it's pretty obvious what you have (unless you're also limp-raising other hands to balance. Do you typically limp-raise hands like SCs/low PPs?).

No, but makes sense that if I am going to limp/re-raise AA utg then I do need to limp/re-raise other hands for balance. Tbh this is the only hand I have ever limp/re-raised utg. I guess the bad thing is that it effectively stops the money going in at that point, whereas a raise utg, may get re-raised by a big pp or whatever, and wind up with more $ in the pot.

Balance plays such small part in stakes these low with a player base this wide. Just do whatever nets you the highest EV.

That said, limp-raising is super transparent anyways, and I can't remember the last time I did it. Like c9 says, if his 3bet is significant then just plain raising this is by far more profitable. It's a clear raise regardless of the table conditions unless the guy is %100 clueless.

If he's a decent aggressive player (it sounds like he's at least positionally aware and somewhat aggressive), then he'll be raising a lot of hands that simply can't continue vs a limp-raise.

Just raising and getting value from whatever calls/reraises behind you is far more +EV than limp-raising and knowing he'll fold the majority of the time imo.

I wait for your posts. I've learned more from you than anyplace.

Thanx :icon_sant

With my limited experience, too many bad things can come from limping with AA from UTG.

I'm sure better players than I can think of creative ways to make money doing it, but that's out of my league for now. The only question to me is how much to raise.
