I would reraise here, hes representing a really narrow range. I dont think most players at 25nl would be playing 55 this way. 8x is definately a possibility but theres only 2 of those in the deck so its pretty unlikely. If he's calling preflop with pairs and suited connectors, he could have some flush/straight draws, 99+ or maybe 22-44 that figures you didn't hit the flop.

Ship it (raise to ~$14). This is a pair higher than 8s or a flush draw almost always. Get your $$ in now. There are like no 8s n most people's preflop flatting range so you're really only afraid of 55. If he's got a couple of hearts your still like a 70% favorite.

This is standard play from PP that puts you on just overs.

Get it in now. this is gonna be 99-KK alot and it's going to be a straight and/or flush draw almost as often.

if villain is somewhat tight, there are very few 8 in his flatting range here, and a hell of a lot of pocket pairs and flush draws. So i like 3betting here for value.

if he's a passive fish, he has tons of 8s in his range and won't repop lite, so i like a fold.

against an unknown, i'll give him respect and 3bet.

Well, glad to see that my line of thinking agreed with everyone else, I figured him for a flush draw or 66+. His actual holdings I had considered as a possibility but discounted it since there were two 8's on the board & two A's in my hand. The all-in may have been a bit much, but I really thought he was on the flush draw and didn't want him sucking out. Thanks for the responses guys, wasn't sure if I should have seen this coming.

Flop:
8♠ 8♥ 5♥
Hero bets [$1.25]
4 players fold.
MP3 raises $2.75 to $4
Hero raises $24.30 to $28.30 [ all-in ]
MP3 calls [$24.15] [ all-in ] Uncalled bet ($0.15) returned to Hero
Potsize: $58.8
Turn:
K♠
Potsize: $58.8
River:
4♣
Results:
Hero shows two pair, Aces and Eights:
A♦ A♠
MP3 shows three of a kind, Eights:
8♣ A♣
MP3 collected $55.75 from pot

actually i don't like the shove. it will only be called by hands that beat you. Much better to 3bet to a level where a lesser hand can either call or believe it has fold equity when it 4bet shoves.

not that it changes the result here, but it would against the lower hand of villain's range.

I agree completely. We want the flush draws and overpairs to call our raise, not fold.

I agree, the shove was bad. I was a little tilted from a big suckout several hands earlier, my ordinary move would have been a 3bet to $12-$15. Of course the rest of the stack would have gotten in at some point I'm sure, lol. Damn aces. :p ;) :D
