I'm raising to $2.00 or $2.25... IP, I would't raise it that high, but OOP with several limpers and the BB to go, I want it to be expensive to see the flop. If there are any callers, and I'm really not expecting any, you can cbet a dry board pretty successfully in this situation.

Did you lose the first hand at the table from the BB (you're not fully stacked)? Depending on the action in that hand, you may be more likely to get callers pf here.

With a pair like that in good position wanting to setmine, I sometimes think "backwards". I think of how much would I be willing to call for a chance to setmine these lovely 9's. Then I raise that much. In that case, $1.50.

But typically, I would raise my standard raise + 1BB for each limper + 1BB for my bad position. My standard PF raise at 25NL is $1.00 + ( 3 x .25) + .25 = $2.00. You will most likely get rid of at least 1 of them. 1 or 2 to the flop are always easier to handle than 3, imo.

But in the case of overcards on the flop, I do think a pot comprised of $1.50 bets is easier to get away from than one with $2.00 bets.

Raising & limping behind are both fine. I much prefer raising though, but you need to be comfortable playing your nines for more than just set value. If the idea of calling bets on a KK8 board & playing some poker on the turn & river makes you uneasy, you should probably just limp behind.

What c9 said. Raising is most probably yields a higher EV assuming you play it well, but limping in if you're uncomfortable postflop is just fine.

What if the 2 people in front of me had folded?

Like everyone folded to you, or just one person limped?

I guess it doesn't matter either way - the fewer people the more inclined I am to raise since I expect to take it down more often and don't expect to have as good implied odds when I limp.

To me it depends on:

1) How comfortable am I after the flop playing 99 oop? If i'm just going to set mine and fold if I don't hit, you should just flat it.

2) How likely am I to get a chain of calls if I raise? This depends on the villains that limped.. If I have a chain of limpers I know are going to all call, I don't want to be playing 99 in a raised pot oop to 3 other players so I just call as well. If I think it's unlikely I get any more than zero/one calls and no more most of the time I'm more likely to raise (usually it's that first limper that matters most too). As this is your 2nd hand at table (assuming all unknowns) this doesn't apply so much in this spot, but would if you had numbers.

I think raising or calling are both fine here though. I would put in a raise to 1.50 or 1.75 ish if you raise. Any less and you encourage more callers. A couple advocated a raise to 2.00-2.25+. Never bet more than is necessary to get the job done and betting more is doing just that. If they will call 1.50 they will call 2.00 and if they will fold to 1.50 they will fold to 2.00.

now call the reraise and hit that 9! you're getting great odds. you probably have bcb beat but luma's line looks ridiculously strong so you definitely don't want to 4bet. you're pretty much looking to get out on the flop if you don't hit your set

There's $7.50 in the pot and it's $1.50 to call. That's 5:1 PO's straight up. Plenty odds to call when you add on the $19 left behind from lumalulu and the $11 from bcbncld. This is an easy call followed by an easy fold if you don't improve.
