Villain is something like 25/20/2 over 50 hands or so - seems like a reasonable TAG. Spew or you like?

Assume we're convinced there's a high likelihood villain is bluffing here. If so, is calling the flop raise better than 3-betting? What;s our plan OOP on the turn if we do?

Stacks:
- weischmann with $15.33 - trompeteuro with $5.98 - Qhr1s0 with $21.86 - yvan_eht_nioj with $25.00 - Karolciu with $21.91

Ohhh Chris is back playing pokers :)

Considering that i'm totally out of sync with shorthanded play for the last year or so take this with a pinch of salt.

P/F - Fine. (Apart from your semi short stack.)
Flop - I dont think i like this with ace high, your getting into a hell of a spot. Even if villian is on a bluff, can he really do this with KQ, id say your likely against AJ, or 99 type hands. I just call the flop raise (or fold) and re-evaluate the turn, but im likely check folding to any sort of unfavourble card.

I think your setting yourself to get stacked very very light by playing back at TAGs like this, whats your plan if villian flat calls here and the turn is a duck ?

i think if he calls ur reraise of 7$ on the flop u should fire 1 more bullet on the turn,if he calls that u have to take ur lose and give him credit for something,i think he could be on something like ace 10 or ace queen and hopefully would fold to ur bet

I like that play, i doubt villain calls pre flop with an 8, so unless he has flopped quads or sevens full, i expect a laydown as you are representing a big pair. I think its a good play. Except for when you get re raised all in of course

I'm assuming a 6 handed table short 1, rather than a 9-10 missing more. The difference being the expected level of understanding of short table play, although in a blind battle the difference is probably minimal.

If, as you assume, BB is bluffing, I'd think calling the flop raise scares him less and is more likely to encourage him to keep being aggressive at a $25 table. I think 6 handed at a higher buyin the reverse might be true; BB might think a call represents a trap.

But, given the info, I'm not convinced he's bluffing meself, so I'm inclined towards TB's advice.

My train of thought.

As I said villain seems to be a decent player. So what can he have here?

- Flush draw - why would he make a small raise with a FD here? He would, I'd expect, either call or raise bigger. As it is, he leaves himself open to being 3-bet - a 3-bet he can't (or shouldn't) call.

- Overpair - villain seems straightforward so I don't see him playing AA-TT trickily here. 99-88 is possible maybe, 88 less so because I have one of them.

- 7x - what hands with a 7 in do we think he's calling with PF? A7 maybe, maybe something like 87s at a stretch, and that's pretty much it.

- 66 - statistically unlikely, plus raising a flopped boat here in position would be obviously unwise.

- Random overcards - the vast majority of his range.

What does our action look like to villain? Raise from the SB, could be a lot of things. Bet on a paired flop - most likely to be a c-bet with air. He raises expecting to take it down (which I'm not a fan of in position but that's another story). I 3-bet as opposed to calling the flop raise simply because I was out of position - I don't like getting over-elaborate and deep into hands like this while OOP, and I don't want to end up second-guessing myself should a dangerous card come on the turn (I classify an Ace as a relatively dangerous card here tbh, as well as any K or club).

Anyway, villain folded, so I'm obviously right. ;)

Apart from your semi short stack.
I generally reload when at <80% of max. Any more and it just becomes a pain, especially seeing as Party's software doesn't like me multitabling on it.

I think your setting yourself to get stacked very very light by playing back at TAGs like this, whats your plan if villian flat calls here and the turn is a duck ?
I'm done with the hand if called, but I didn't expect to be called. Pretty sure villain is folding most of the time and shoving the rest, making life easy for me.

With your read, this is the textbook example of where and how to execute this play, since @ 25/20/2 he seems like a straightforward player who will try pick off c-bets once in a while by a semi-bluff or pure bluff.

Calling the raise is the worst option here since a bet on the turn is really less effective than 3-betting the flop. This is 25NL, let's not get too "level" happy.
