No reads on villain at all.

HERO UTG +3 TJss raises $0.75(Kind of loose yeah but I like this hand :p)
Folds to BB who calls $0.50

Flop($1.65) Jh 8h Tc

HERO Bets $1.15 (In retrospect I should of bet more like $1.35-$1.50 on this flop)
Villain calls $1.15

Turn($3.95) Jc

HERO bets $2.85
BB Folds

I feel like I should of checked the turn here to let villain draw and possibly catch up, only hands calling this bet are probably made hands like 10x or Jx and villains range is made up of mostly draws. Even if villain floated with air, if I check turn here I give him a chance to bluff river so no matter which way you look at it, the value here is in checking behind?

I posted this hand but this spot comes up a lot where the turn really helps me and I fire a 2nd barrel in position and lose my opponent, in general circumstances should I favor checking this turn 50% of the time?

You should check turn or bet small (max 50% pot), depending on his stats. Betting too small is also a bit of a hint that you really love the turn card.

This is the type of hand I very seldom have any luck with. Any bet and they fold, check and quite often, most often I'd say, villain(s) don't pick up anything so it's a wasted nice hand.

So to answer your question, quite often, checking is the only way to get any value, maybe drawing a bluff bet is even a bonus.

I do like the half pot bet option

If you check you give villain a chance to catch up and sometimes they do try and pick it up from you, he could do this here with 99 or any combo flush/straight draws he may semi bluff.

Goes without saying if he has TT or 88 all the money's going in anyway, so I'd prefer to give him a chance to catch up or bluff..
There's a lot of players who will put you on AK/AQ there when you don't fire OTT and they will be inclined to try and pick it up from you..

I struggle in these spots and do the same thing.. lead out OTT figuring he must have one more call and they fold.. does my nut in when the boards so wet you'd figure you'd get action

This isn't the only possibility. Various players might bet small with something like a combo draw e.g. 99, with QQ that didn't want to 3bet pre-, high hearts as a blocking bet, etc.
