Bet more on turn, about $2.50 which makes it easier to bet larger on river too

i was playing it slow on the turn because i wanted him to feel in control and come at me with a turn 3bet. but he didn't give away his hand strength on the turn either. so i was under the impression that he really didn't have much since he did not raise the turn. so i checked the river giving him a chance to bluff because i saw him bluff before. was shocked to find out he had a monster hand as well. got to give him credit for playing the hand with extreme caution. caused him minimal damage. because with that hand he could have paid me off handsomely.

I would have played as followed:

Raise bigger on the flop as its a limped pot and there is a few draws out there... $1.75-$2.

Bet larger on the turn, $4ish

River jam to donk...

I think your bet sizing is a little small on flop and especially the turn. You gave your opponents 3:1, which is a bargain for straight draws. I think even making your sizing even just slightly larger is significant - like $1.80. You really want to get that flop as inflated as possible because bet sizing across multiple streets is exponential.

My main consideration is that I'm up against a hand like QJ, KJ, J9, .. or a straight draw. So I'm betting with that kind of a read. I think anything stronger than that it won't be hard to get money in the pot.

And I think with that kind of a range we can bet more. I think around $3.00 is about right. And had we made it a raise to 1.80 on the flop, the pot would have been about $5.20. In which case we could bet the turn for $3.60. OR, stuck with the plan of betting low to project weakness and bet for $3.00. Either way it's beneficial which is why I want to stress the sizing on the flop.

Checking the river is no good. No draws came in, so most of your opponent's range is top pair type hands. I'd bet the river - and I'd either do it for something like $5.40 for value... or, if I think my opponent has the ability or tendency to raise the river as a bluff, I might bet $3.20 in hopes of inducing a bluff. If our opponent has better than top pair, I expect he will likely raise the river anyway - so I don't need to check raise. I think check raising the river set off an alarm bell. Because look - your opponent has a full house. If you bet, he raises, you 3-bet. And he likely calls. Cause he has a full house.

Now, let's say you followed my line of betting. By the river the pot is $12.40 . You bet for value - say, $8.00. All those top pair kind of hands, pay you off for a $14 pot. What about the full house? Raises to $20 - you repop all in and maybe get in the whole stack.

It's much more aggressive but I think you cover a lot more ground in the long run.
