Alton919: bets $2.95 into $7.25
Mamushi: ?
He's offering you 2.45:1. You have to be good here 29% of the time for your call to be break even. I think this could be a worse nine about this often, so its not a huge mistake to call if it is a mistake at all.

As far as the rest of the hand, I'd like to see this raised preflop, and if you're going to call a bet on the river, I'd much rather be betting myself. So many nines are in his range, and they'll likely check back the river. However, they'll almost always call a bet. So I'd bet the river for about 4$ myself.

Thanks C9 your advice is always appreciated. You have to see the Limp/Call stat on these guys before you understand why I didn't raise preflop. It was going to be a multi-way pot no matter what so I just checked. I did call for the reasons you stated, but isn't this a situation where you want to keep the pot small so that when they do show up with the straight you are not paying off their implied odds?

A) You'll see a straight here almost never. 6x, TT, 22, 55 are all far more likely. And even if they have a straight, they made such gargantuan mistakes on the flop & turn that I would gladly pay them on the river.

B) You're not raising just to thin the field, you're raising to make the stack to pot ratio more favorable for your hand. You're likely going to be playing a pair of aces, a pair of 9's, and you'd like to have a bit less money behind. Also, your hand flops well, while the random trash they limped likely doesn't. So you'll be able to continue on flops more often than they will, and that's an edge you should be willing to exploit. Raising preflop accomplishes more than just thinning the field.
