poker stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 4 Players

CO: $31.52 (126.1 bb) seems like a regular over super small sample
BTN: $25 (100 bb)
SB: $26.86 (107.4 bb)
Hero (BB): $44.87 (179.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q

CO raises to $0.75, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.50

Flop: ($1.60) 4

Hero checks, CO bets $1.25, Hero calls $1.25

Turn: ($4.10) 8

Hero checks, CO checks

River: ($4.10) 7

Hero bets $3, CO folds

Thinking about it over and over again. Now i don't like my river bet, because I'm turning my hand into a bluff where its not needed. I see it like this now - i beat almost everything that checks this turn unless he didn't wanted to bet something like KJ, AJ. I beat 8x, all pocket pairs under Jx and i beat JT, J9 etc. Also his overcards ain't good. If he has like :ac4: :jh4: he should bet this on turn again, right?

Is my thinking right?

Yes, it was a bad bet simply because there were 4 clubs on the board. You don't have to analyze it any further than that. I don't know what you mean about "I beat almost everything that checks the turn"... Not true, he certainly might check with any club and have you crushed on the river....

There's a lot more hands that beat you that might have checked the turn like any small pairs up to TT that have a club. A5/A4with club... with that being said though, the pot is so small that a lot of those would still look you up, so in the end, yes, it wasn't a good bet. :)

The clarkmeister theorem likes your play. Don't think I would have bet so much though.

^ this.

you should be betting/donking all rivers on 4 of a suit boards when you dont have SD value [excluding when youre vs whales that call ATC anyway]. 40% of pot is plenty.

but yes, max value is definitely being a sicko and check/calling. (remember, the 4 clubs will make him polarise his betting range, ie kill his entire river value betting range down to just combos with big clubs, and prevent him from betting hand thats beat you like AJ etc).

as youve realised, theres no point betting here if you think you have the best hand, since you will [should] never be called by anything that you beat, so youre only costing yourself more. by check/calling, you allow your opponent to stab at the pot with his air, and you can bluff catch for value

This looks good to me, I agree with danprince.

Villain almost always has showdown value here, and a bet here is standard. 3-betting pre is pretty thin to me given how well this hand hits flops. Depends on table I suppose.
