$200 NL HE Full Ring: QQ vs Rock

I am playing live at a local casino. I have been at this table for about 3 hours and I have a stack of $185.

I get QQ in the cutoff and it is folded to me, I raise to $12 and just the BB calls. Now the BB is a rock type player that only really puts money in with good cards (so I have seen). The one hand earlier we were both allin and we had the same hand J8 for the nut straight. So when he calls I am a little concerned but we shall see.

Heads UP

Flop 5s 10d 5h

So a relatively safe flop for me with no flush draw and no overs.

Villian checks
Hero bets $20
Villian calls $20

Turn 5s 10d 5h 7d

Villian checks again
Hero bets $50
Villian allin for $134
Hero!?!?!?

Can we call here? Was the $50 a good bet? Please discuss.

A rock plays J8 in the SB ???

Raising to 12 is a standard open at your table? Never get used to live poker.

I don't expect to be ahead very often given the beluga on turn, but i don't see how we could fold an overpair given the stack to pot ratio on flop and the pot odds on turn.

I agree. He cant be so tight if he plays J8. I would go brock in this case; and I would say from me that I´m pretty tight.

Ditto. Can't find a fold here, though I agree that we're probably behind (beluga).

I play live quite a bit, and 6x opens are standard in the games I play live (200NL and 400NL). Sick, and potentially very profitable.

The way the hand played out you have to call at this point. there are still some hands you could have beat such as A10! calling in the bb he could have any kind of 10. He might also be thinking you could have raised with a big ace and he thinks he can get you off you ace high. i'm trying to think of a way this hand can turn out different, maybe betting a bit less on the turn but still it would be hard to get away from so if he has the 5 then he has it and o well!

no i think he has a 5 in this hand because of the way the hand was played preflop...he is not likely having an overpair...he probably has a set or a full house...maybe a 10...but most likely looks like 555 maybe he called with 56s or A5s...lol @ rock playing J8..you're funny

LOL, when I said he was a rock, I meant when he is betting/raising post flop, when he was forced to show, he had the goods. He seems like the type of player that is kinda loose preflop and them tightens up postflop.

So I am pondering a call and this guy is staring right at me, I count out the chips and he is staring at my hands. I say, "I call" and villian instantly says, "I got a five man," and he looks like he is upset that he is beating me. River is a blank and villian flips over A5 o/s and scoops a $350+ pot. Sucky night because I was playing well, chipping away and winning the small pots, but I lost 2 huge pots with QQ.

So I guess this was "standard", I don't know, I think I could have lost less with this hand. Would a check behind the villian be a poor play on the flop? Because then if he fires on the turn and I raise him and then he goes allin, I think I can fold my QQ. What do you think?

In retrospect it seems like a wa/wb situation so checking behind on the flop wouldn't have been a bad idea. But given your description of him being a 'rock' or whatever you actually mean by that, the chances of him hitting the 5 are pretty slim.
